Badger's Basketball Star Koenig to Join Pipeline Protest
Badger’s Point Guard Hopes to bring Awareness to Dakota Pipeline
Social Issues are a Major talking point for many across the nation. Whether it is at the dinner table, the water cooler, or the local gym there are always conversations on current events across the Country. Whatever your believes, it is your right as a citizen to voice your opinions to help make a difference, and Wisconsin Point Guard Bronson Koenig is doing just that. Yesterday Koenig discussed his plan to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline.
“I hope to bring awareness to the cause and give everyone out there a little bit of joy and a little bit of hope.”

In case you missed it, the Dakota Access Pipeline was a project approved by the Army Corps of Engineering to bring Oil from Northern North Dakota underground to a refinery in Illinois, spanning over 1,000 miles. Since the inception of the plans hundreds of Native Tribes have protest the proceedings as it impedes on sacred ground and may affect the Standing Rock’s Sioux Tribe water source.
In an effort to combat this, Koenig will join the protesters this weekend. Koenig is a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, and has no problem making his beliefs felt. If you recall, Koenig had a feather inscribed in his hair to represent the Ho- Chunk and other Native Tribes. In a conversation with Yahoo Sports, Koenig said “I hope to bring awareness to the cause and give everyone out there a little bit of joy and a little bit of hope.” By standing up for what he believes Koenig not only embodies the proud characteristics of his heritage, but also his University.
