Asheville rallies, holds on to beat Campbell 70-63

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Andrew Rowsey scored 19 points, Kevin Vannatta a career-high 18 and UNC Asheville recovered from a 16-point first-half deficit before holding on to beat Campbell 70-63 on Saturday.

David Robertson added 10 points for the Bulldogs (11-10, 7-3 Big South), who are tied for second, a game back of High Point.

The Camels, who led 27-24 at halftime, went scoreless for 8 1/2 minutes spanning the two halves with Asheville going on a 24-0 run and eventually leading 49-31 with 11:40 left in the game.

Campbell got untracked with three unanswered 3-pointers, and D.J. Mason's layup cut Asheville's lead to 65-63 with a minute remaining. But the Vannatta hit a turnaround jumper with 26 seconds left, Mason missed a 3-pointer, and Rowsey added two free throws with 13 seconds left.

Curtis Phillips scored a career-high 17 points, Andrew Ryan 16 and Troy Harper 13 for the Camels (8-15, 2-8).
