Asheville beats Campbell 80-60 in Big South opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Dwayne Sutton scored 18 points and UNC Asheville beat Campbell 80-60 in a Big South opener on Sunday, snapping the Camels' four-game winning streak.

Sutton was 8 of 12 from the floor. Sam Hughes scored 15 points, Kevin Vannatta had 12 and Dylan Smith 11 for the Bulldogs (5-4). Ahmad Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds to lead a 45-33 advantage on the boards. Asheville was 29 of 35 at the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs took off to a 27-9 lead in the first half when it shot 53 percent and grabbed a 40-19 lead at the break.

The Camels (5-3) struggled, shooting just shy of 30 percent and making only 4 of 27 3-point attempts. Troy Harper led the Camels with a career-high 21 points, 11 coming at the free-throw line. Chris Clemons added 13 points.

Asheville's largest lead was 29 points, coming with 9:40 to go.
