Malcoln Kirkland scored 10 points for the Red Wolves (3-6), who have won three of their last four.
Robert Sanders had 15 points to lead the Hornets (1-7).
Arkansas State took control with an 11-4 run during the final minutes of the first half. The Red Wolves, who shot a season-high 48 percent from the floor, led 39-29 at the break and extended the lead to 28 points in the second half.
