Brandon Peterson had 19 points and nine rebounds to help Arkansas State beat Central Arkansas 71-64 Saturday night in a renewal of an old rivalry.

Peterson was 6 of 8 from the field and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line. Ed Townsel added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Red Wolves (4-5), who never trailed in the game. Malcoln Kirkland and Trey Finn had 10 points apiece.

Jarvis Garner and Mark Rutledge scored 13 points each for the Bears (5-4), and LaQuentin Miles added 12. The loss snapped Central Arkansas' five-game winning streak.

With the victory, Arkansas State edged ahead of Central Arkansas in all-time wins in the series, 19-18. The game was the first meeting between the in-state rivals since the 1952-53 season.

The Red Wolves led by 11, 34-23, at halftime and by as many as 14 in the second half.
