Isaac Butts and Omar Carter scored 15 points each, and Butts also grabbed 15 rebounds, to lead Appalachian State to a 76-64 victory over Winthrop on Saturday.

After Andre Jones' layup gave Winthrop its only lead of the second half, 58-57 with 7:47 remaining, a 3-pointer by Mike Neal put the Mountaineers (12-15) ahead to stay.

Butts followed with a layup and G.J. Vilarino a 3-pointer to put Appalachian State ahead by seven, 65-58, with 5:57 left in the Bracket Busters game.

Appalachian State led by as many as 16 points in the first half, 26-10 with 9:48 left, but the Eagles (11-19) cut their deficit to 41-35 at halftime, as Reggie Middleton scored 13 of his 16 points.

Tab Hamilton and Nathan Healy added 13 points each for Appalachian State, and Neal finished with 10.

Matt Morgan scored 22 points to lead the Eagles, making 10 of 14 shots.
