Donald Sims had 21 points and Appalachian State defeated Montreat 101-71 on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (2-0) overcame a slow start after the game was delayed 50 minutes by the late arrival of their uniforms.

The result was an early 10-0 run by Montreat to tie the game at 18 with 11:17 left in the first half.

Stretching into the second half, the Mountaineers scored 15 straight to lead 60-36 on Omar Carter's 3 with 17:58 left in the game.

Carter chipped in 20 on 7-of-11 shooting against the Cavaliers, an NAIA school counting the game as an exhibition.

Nathan Healy and Jeremi Booth came off the bench to score 19 and 12 points, respectively, for the Mountaineers.

Appalachian State outrebounded the Cavaliers 52-43 for the most boards since grabbing 58 over Milligan in December 2008.

Matt Rushing scored 16 points and Giles Mack had 13 for Montreat.
