American U cruises to 68-49 win over Navy

WASHINGTON (AP) John Schoof scored 25 points on 8-for-13 shooting to lead American University to a 68-49 win over Navy on Wednesday night.

Marko Vasic and Jesse Reed added 14 points apiece as American (15-14, 8-9 Patriot League) shot 56.4 percent from the floor on 39 attempts to snap a two-game skid and avenge a Jan. 28 loss to the Midshipmen. Vasic also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out eight assists.

American broke away with a 14-2 run in the first half that included a 3-pointer from Charlie Jones and carried a 34-17 advantage into the break. Navy (11-18, 7-10) trimmed it to 51-43 on Tilman Dunbar's layup with 5:24 left before Pee Wee Gardner and Schoof fueled an 8-0 burst that gave the Eagles a double-digit advantage they held the rest of the way.

Worth Smith and Shawn Anderson led Navy with 14 points apiece.
