Alcorn St rallies to beat Mississippi Valley St, 72-71 OT

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) Devonte Hampton scored 24 points, Octavious Brown hit the game-winning jumper with one second left, and Alcorn State hung on to beat Mississippi Valley State 72-71 in overtime on Saturday.

Tamarcio Wilson drilled a 3-pointer with one second left in regulation for Alcorn State (11-12, 9-3 SWAC) which tied the score at 65 and sent the game to overtime.

The Delta Devils (5-21, 5-7) scored the first six in the extra period, capped by a Damian Young jumper, for a 71-65 lead with 1:51 left. But the Braves rallied with a 7-0 run to retake the lead and seal the win. Wilson made a layup and Brown drilled a 3 to cut the Braves deficit to one, which set up his heroics on the final play.

Brown had 16 points and Wilson had 15 for Alcorn State.

Isaac Williams led the Delta Devils with 23 points.
