Albany beats Mass-Lowell 64-51 in meeting of AEC unbeatens

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) Evan Singletary scored 21 points with four 3-pointers and Peter Hooley added 14 more as Albany used a breakaway run late in the first half to defeat UMass-Lowell 64-51 on Saturday in a meeting of America East Conference unbeatens.

The Great Danes (8-7, 3-0) broke away late in the first half with an 11-0 run - six straight at the free-throw line followed by a Greig Stire dunk and a Singletary 3-pointer - to push the lead from 22-18 to 33-18 just before halftime.

Singletary and Ray Sanders opened the second half with 3-pointers, and Albany was off and running.

The Great Danes made 8 of 19 3-pointers, shot 45 percent overall (17 of 38) and sank 22 of 25 from the foul line.

Chad Holley and Matt Harris led the River Hawks (8-8, 2-1) with 12 points each - Harris hitting three 3-pointers and Holley making 7 of 8 free throws.
