Alabama St. comes back to beat Grambling St. 68-66

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) Jamel Waters hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 44 seconds left and then knocked down a jumper at the buzzer to close out Alabama State's 68-66 comeback victory over Grambling State on Thursday night.

Grambling State (4-22, 3-14 Southwestern Athletic Conference) trailed by four at the half after rallying back from an 11-point deficit. The Tigers went on a 16-4 run after the break to take the lead for the first time in the game by nine points with 8:04 remaining.

With just 3:24 left, the Hornets went on a 7-0 run to get back within three points. Waters finished with 13 points, DeMarcus Robinson had 19, and Billy Ingram added 12.

Alabama State (17-11, 11-6) entered the contest tied for second place with Texas Southern in the SWAC.

Antwan Scott finished with 18 pints for the Tigers and Chandler Thomas chipped in 17 along with 12 rebounds.
