Brandon Brooks scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out eight assists to lead Alabama State to a 64-49 win over Prairie View on Saturday. Andrew Hayles paced the Hornets (17-8, 14-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) with 19 points and Roland Fitch chipped in 15. Prairie View (13-15, 9-6) was led by Darnell Hugee and Alex Richman, who each scored nine points. Alabama State shot 51 percent from the field (25 of 49), while the Panthers hit 33.8 percent of their shots (21 of 62). Prairie View, which trailed 31-22 at halftime, went 5-for-23 from behind the 3-point line (21.7 percent), as Richman went 3-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc. The Hornets went 10 of 14 from the free-throw line.
