Cornelius Hester scored 14 points and Alabama A&M defeated Mississippi Valley State 72-60 on Saturday.

Junior Casey Cantey reached the 1,000-point milestone with 10 points and Jonathan Inman also had 10 for the Bulldogs (5-7, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Alabama A&M led by 11 points at halftime but the Delta Devils cut the lead to six points with 11:02 to play. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with an 11-3 run that stretched the lead to 62-48 after two free throws by Inman with 6:34 left.

The Bulldogs won despite shooting 35.7 percent (10 for 28) from the free-throw line. They fared better from the field, making 47.2 percent of their shots (28 for 59).


Falando Jones came off the bench to score 15 points and Kevin Burwell added 13 for the Delta Devils (2-13, 1-1), who have lost eight of their past nine games.
