Abilene Christian holds off NW State for 76-72 win (Feb 11, 2017)

ABILENE, Texas (AP) Jaylen Franklin slammed home a dunk and had a layup in the final minutes as Abilene Christian held off Northwestern State for a 76-72 victory on Saturday.

Franklin dunked to retake the lead 71-70 with 1:21 left, and Jaren Lewis added two free throws for a 73-70 advantage. Northwestern State's Ishmael Lane drove for a layup to close to 73-72 with 37 seconds remaining. Franklin added a layup with 10 seconds left to secure the win.

Northwestern State grabbed its first lead in the game, 60-58, when Lane dropped in a 3 with 6:59 left. The Demons had their last lead, 70-69, following Lane's layup with 2:02 remaining. Franklin responded with a dunk.

Jalone Friday nailed 3 of 4 from distance for 20 points for ACU (11-13, 5-8 Southland Conference), which has won three of its last four games.

Lane had a career-high 32 points for Northwestern State (9-14, 3-9).
