Abilene Christian defeats Sacramento State 72-61

ABILENE, Texas (AP) LaDarrien Williams scored 24 points and Austin Cooke had 12 with 10 rebounds, pacing Abilene Christian past Sacramento State 72-61 on Thursday night.

Parker Wentz finished with 15 points and Jalen Little dished out seven assists for the Wildcats (3-3), who shot 51.1 percent from the field.

Abilene Christian pushed ahead with a 15-6 run sparked by Williams' three-point play and jumper to lead 31-17 at the 2:56 mark in the first half. Wentz and Williams each hit 3-pointers to open the second half, giving the Wildcats their largest lead of 17.

Sacramento State (4-2) trailed by double digits for most of the second half before cutting it to eight on Dylan Garrity's layup with 2:59 left. Wentz answered with a 3 and Abilene Christian sank 10 of its last 12 free throws to seal it.

Garrity led the Hornets with 19 points and Mikh McKinney had 12.
