Marco Antonio Rubio handed David Lemieux his fist career loss, stopping him in the seventh round of a WBA middelweight title eliminator on Friday night.

Lemieux (25-1) was safely ahead on all three judges' cards when he was knocked down. He got up, but his trainer and manager Russ Anber threw in the towel to stop the fight.

The 30-year-old Rubio (50-5-1) became the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt.

In the co-feature, super middleweight Adonis Stevenson (14-1) knocked out Derek Edwards (25-2) in the third round to win the minor NABA title.
