English boxer Ricky Hatton appears ready to make his retirement permanent.

Hatton, 31, was due to make a return to the ring in June but now looks certain to call it a day, according to a report in England's The Sun.

A former world light-welterweight and welterweight champion, Hatton had originally planned to continue his career, despite a devastating KO by Filipino Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas. Hatton was knocked down for the third and final time with a second remaining in the second round of their IBO light-welterweight title bout in May, 2009.

Hatton had resumed training last month after a holiday in Australia.

Since then, Hatton has broken training, leaving his Manchester base for a weekend with friends at his property on the Spanish island of Tenerife, off the west coast of Africa.

Hatton's parents, had been among the strongest voices urging Hatton to retire.

Hatton is now expected to focus on his growing promotional business, which boasts a stable of six fighters and a satellite broadcasting deal.
