Angulo signs with Golden Boy
In January, The Boxing Tribune reported that Golden Boy Promotions had an informal deal to represent junior middleweight, Alfredo Angulo and was working to come to terms with Angulo’s promoter, Gary Shaw.
Thursday, it was announced that Shaw had sold Angulo’s contract to Golden Boy for an undisclosed amount of money.
Angulo (19-1, 16 KOs), who has been inactive for 13 months due to immigration issues, is scheduled to return to the ring Aug. 20 in his native Mexicali, Mexico against journeyman, Joseph Gomez (17-4-1, 8 KOs).
Last month, the WBC ordered an eliminator between Angulo and Vanes Martirosyan, but it remains to be seen whether Angulo will follow through with the mandate. With his new promoter, bouts with Golden Boy fighters, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, James Kirkland, and Erislandy Lara would also be easier to make.
In his last bout, Angulo scored a first-round KO over former titlist Joachim Alcine.
