ANNOUNCER: After his dismissal at Schalke, Nils Petersen's first yellow card was rescinded by the DFB, and therefore he was in Freiburg's unchanged starting 11 against Wolfsburg. The visitors were 4 points behind Freiburg coming into this, and three changes were made to the team that drew in Berlin.

One of those changes made an immediate impact just a minute and 30 seconds into the game. Daniel Didavi hadn't started their previous two matches, but started well match day 29, scoring a beauty from range, with Freiburg shell-shocked, Didavi's seventh of the season and Wolfsburg's quickest goal scored in two and a half years.

Freiburg had lost their last four home games against the Wolves and needed a fast reply. Defender Manuel Gulde's header was the closest the home team came to an equalizer, though. The only shot on target in the first half resulted in a 1-0 lead for Wolves, courtesy of Daniel Didavi.

In the second half, Freiburg continued to work hard, but Vincent Sierro saw his efforts go way wide. Christian Streich may have been pleased enough with the attitude, but not with his team's finishing. And with seven minutes remaining, substitute Divock Origi showed his class, a back-heeled nutmeg past Soyüncü, and Didavi's finishing shot a delight to watch as well.

2-0 Wolfsburg, Didavi's first brace for the Wolves and a deserved lead from the visiting team. But into stoppage time, Freiburg were thrown a lifeline when referee Sascha Stegemann had a look at the VAR to confirm a penalty after Robin Knoche flicked the ball away with his left hand.

Nils Petersen had scored all five of his pens this term, but he was denied by Koen Casteels at the death. The first 3 points for Bruno Labbadia, who's taken charge, were so important in the fight against relegation. 2-0 in Freiburg.
