Suffers setback Nianzou suffered a new setback from his hamstring injury and is ruled out for the time being, the club announced.
Impact Nianzou is sidelined after suffering a setback from his hamstring injury and will be out for the time being. This is a blow for Sevilla since the center-back is expected to be a regular starter in the backline when fit and available, and they will need to cope without him moving forward. With Cesar Azpilicueta (calf) also a doubt, Fabio Cardoso could be the one starting in central defense against Espanyol on Nov. 24.
NOVEMBER 15 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to bench Nianzou (hamstring) is on the bench for Saturday's clash against Atletico.
Impact Nianzou is one of several players who are returning for Sevilla ahead of the clash against the Colchoneros. He's been a regular starter at the back for manager Matias Almeyda but will begin this one on the bench as he continues to work back to full match fitness. A return to the XI could come soon depending on how Sevilla manage his minutes.
NOVEMBER 1 • ROTOWIRE
Makes squad to face Atletico Madrid Nianzou (hamstring) is in the squad for Saturday's game against Atletico Madrid.
Impact Nianzou is one of several players who are returning for Sevilla ahead of this match. He's been a regular starter at the back for manager Matias Almeyda and could very well return to the XI right away in this contest.
OCTOBER 31 • ROTOWIRE
Training with team Nianzou (hamstring) was spotted back in team training on Thursday, the club posted.
Impact Nianzou suffered a setback after coming back from injury late September but is seeing a good progression towards his return since he was spotted in team training on Thursday. Nianzou started two of his three appearances this season under coach Mathias Almeyda, suggesting he could be in contention to hold a decent role if he can remain fit.
OCTOBER 30 • ROTOWIRE
Aiming return next week Nianzou (hamstring) is expected to resume team training next week, coach Matias Almeyda said in the press conference.
Impact Nianzou will miss a fourth game in a row due to a hamstring injury but is expected to be back in training next week with the team and therefore not so far from returning. Nianzou started two of his three appearances this season and will likely be in competition for that role moving forward.
OCTOBER 23 • ROTOWIRE
Not playing vs. Mallorca Nianzou (hamstring) won't be an option to face Mallorca on Saturday, manager Matias Almeyda told media during Friday's pre-match press conference. "He felt some discomfort after re...
Impact Nianzou has been limited to three appearances due to injuries, but he's capable of competing for a starting role when healthy. Judging by the words of Almeyda, the Frenchman could have a realistic shot at being available to face Real Sociedad on Friday, Oct. 24.
OCTOBER 17 • ROTOWIRE
Running on grass Nianzou (hamstring) was running on grass Tuesday, according to his club.
Impact Nianzou suffered an injury just ahead of the international break and has now missed two games through injury, but is working towards a return, as the defender was seen running on grass. This is solid news for the defender, who will now look to train with the team and return to play soon. He started in two of his three appearances thus far between injuries and will work towards that spot when Sevilla resumes play against Mallorca on Oct. 18.
OCTOBER 7 • ROTOWIRE
Suffers injury again Nianzou (undisclosed) suffered a muscle injury once again in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat against Villarreal, leaving his teammates one man down for 20 minutes since all substitutions were...
Impact Nianzou is struggling to keep himself fit as he suffered a new muscular injury in Tuesday's defeat against Villarreal and had to leave his teammates one man down for 20 minutes. This is a big blow for the defender since he was in the starting squad in the two games prior to this new setback and coach Matias Almeyda seemed to count on him. That said, his absence will need to be replaced once again in the back-three, with Marcao in good position to take a larger role in the backline for the Sevillians.
SEPTEMBER 24 • ROTOWIRE
Starting vs. Elche Nianzou (thigh) is in the starting lineup for Friday's match against Elche.
Impact Manager Matias Almeyda decided to shake things up on the defensive end and Nianzou will get the start after leaving a thigh injury behind. He's set to start at center-back alongside Marcao in a 4-2-3-1 setting.
SEPTEMBER 12 • ROTOWIRE
Could be involved Saturday Nianzou (thigh) is a late call for Saturday's match against Elche, according to manager Matias Almeyda. "I think he will be available. We will see for how many minutes, it is diffi...
Impact Nianzou looks to be in for a return Saturday after some time out with a thigh injury, just needing to pass some testing to be an option. This is good news, although he will likely only serve off the bench if fit. He was only available for six games all of last season due to injury and will hope to regain the starting role he saw to begin last season, probably needing to get a few matches under his belt before a start comes.
SEPTEMBER 11 • ROTOWIRE
Back in team training Nianzou (thigh) was spotted back in team training on Friday, the club posted.
Impact Nianzou suffered a season ending thigh injury last October and was spotted back in team training for the first time on Friday. This is a good development for the Frenchman, although he will probably hold a rotational role this season under new coach Matias Almeyda.
AUGUST 22 • ROTOWIRE
Dealt strain Nianzou (thigh) is suffering from a strain, according to his club.
Impact Nianzou recieved surgery in January and seemed to be recovering well but has now hit a roadblock to start the preseason, as he hs been dealt a strain in his thigh. The club will likely take this cautiously after his previous injury, not wanting to risk him when his return will depend on his evolution. This will put him in a bit of a bind for the start of the season, being a close call to make the first match day.
JULY 14 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoes successful surgery Nianzou was successfully operated on the rectus femoris in his right thigh on Tuesday afternoon by Dr. Jordi Puigdellivol in Barcelona, the club announced. He will return to Sevill...
Impact Nianzou has suffered a setback from his thigh injury that required surgery. It is unclear when he will be able to return for Sevilla, as he has been injury-prone and has already missed 48 games since joining the club in 2022. Nemanja Gudelj, originally a midfielder, has been replacing him in central defense for most of the season.
JANUARY 29 • ROTOWIRE
Scheduled for Surgery Thursday Nianzou is set to undergo surgery on his thigh on Tuesday, keeping him out longer for Sevilla.
Impact Nianzou has already been out since November with a tendon injury to his thigh. With the injury not getting better, he is set to undergo surgery to repair it, with his timeline to return still unclear, depending on his recovery.
JANUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
Suffers new injury Nianzou has suffered a "severe" right thigh injury during Thursday's training session, the club announced.
Impact Nianzou was expected to return Sunday against Rayo Vallecano after overcoming a right hamstring injury, but this new injury will keep him sidelined for the time being. Further tests will be needed to reveal the extent of the injury, but the injury was described by severe, so he's expected to be out for the foreseeable future.
NOVEMBER 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Set for return Sunday Nianzou (hamstring) is expected to be an option for Sunday's match against Rayo Vallecano. According to him, "I'm well prepared. I've been training since the start of the internati...
Impact Nianzou has missed three of the last four matches through injury, playing just twice during the month of October. He continues to be an option to start at center back for Sevilla, starting all six games played, making 26 clearances with eight interceptions.
NOVEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Suffers hamstring injury Nianzou was diagnosed with a right hamstring injury Saturday and doesn't have a clear timetable for his return.
Impact The recovery process will ultimately determine Nianzou's timetable to return, but this is a massive blow for a Sevilla side that also lost Orjan Nyland (knee) and Loic Bade (thigh) due to injuries following the 2-0 win over Espanyol on Friday. This means Marcao and Kike Salas are expected to see more time at center-back, and even Nemanja Gudelj could play the position if needed.
OCTOBER 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Completes one-game ban Nianzou completed his one-game suspension and will be available to face Espanyol on Friday.
Impact Nianzou was sent off in the derby vs Betis and missed the match against Barcelona, which ended in a 5-1 defeat for the Andalucia side. Nianzou has been a regular for Sevilla all season long, and he should return to the side for the Friday matchup at Espanyol.
OCTOBER 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sent off in derby Nianzou was sent off with a straight red card in Sunday's 1-0 win over Real Betis.
Impact Nianzou has been a starter in the five games he's been available for Sevilla in this current league campaign, but he'll be forced to miss the Barcelona match due to this red card. Nianzou will be eligible for selection against Espanyol on Oct. 25, and if the recent trends indicate anything, he could very well return to the XI right away.
OCTOBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Own goal during spot start Nianzou logged an own goal and two shots (zero on goal) during Sevilla's 2-2 draw Friday against Las Palmas.
Impact Not long after Alex Suarez scored an own goal, Nianzou logged one himself, taking away what would have been a first-half lead for Sevilla. Ideally for him, he can receive an immediate opportunity to redeem himself. But with Sevilla's next game scheduled against a tougher team in Villarreal, perhaps Los Nervionenses would be more comfortable using their initial pair of center-backs, with Loic Bade alongside Nemanja Gudelj.
AUGUST 16, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Appears Sunday Nianzou recorded six accurate passes in Sunday's 1-0 defeat versus Real Madrid. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 91st minute.
Impact Nianzou was back on the pitch after having missed the last three matches with a strain. He has missed most of the season dealing with different injuries, having totaled only five appearances in La Liga, with two of them coming as starts.
FEBRUARY 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Makes bench Nianzou (strain) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Real Madrid.
Impact Nianzou is back with the team after missing the last three matches with a strain. He's made just two starts in five appearances since Nov 26, recording 12 tackles and seven clearances in that span.
FEBRUARY 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Makes squad list Nianzou (strain) is in the squad list for Saturday's match against Real Madrid.
Impact Nianzou looks to possibly be in line for a return, hoping to end his streak of four straight matches on the sideline due to a strain after making the squad list. The defender will hope to put his injury concerns behind him if he is healthy by Sunday, as he has only played in six matches all season, missing 23 contests due to injury so far this campaign. If he is selected to the team sheet, he will most likely serve on the bench, as he only started twice in his previous contests, and they will want to take his return cautiously due to his constant health issues.
FEBRUARY 24, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Training on grass Nianzou took part in individual training on the pitch Wednesday, Deportes Sevilla reports.
Impact Nianzou has been sidelined for two matches with a muscular injury but appears to slowly be making his way back. The Saturday trip to Valencia will likely come too soon for Nianzou, but a Feb. 25 trip to Real Madrid could offer a chance if he can get back to team training ahead of that match.
FEBRUARY 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Makes bench to face Bilbao Nianzou (thigh) is on the bench to face Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.
Impact Nianzou has dealt with injuries all season long, and his presence on the bench gives Sevilla another option to play on the defensive line, arguably the area of the pitch where the team has suffered the most injury-wise. Nianzou has made just one start this season, though, and it seems more likely that he'll play off the bench going forward.
