Assists Saturday Mendez assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and one corner in Saturday's 3-0 victory against Colorado Rapids.
Impact Mendez provided his first assist of the season Saturday as he set up Gonzalo Tapia's goal in the 81st minute. It was the only chance he created in the match and he also recorded two off-target shots. He now has three goal contributions in six appearances for the Crew and will hope to keep that form up to get his team back into playoff contention.

Scores opener Sunday Mendez scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal), three crosses (one accurate) and three corners in Sunday's 3-1 defeat against New England Revolution.
Impact Mendez bagged an early opener Sunday, a strike in the 8th minute assisted by Mohamed Farsi. He and the rest of the attack struggled to get much going after that though, failing to manage a shot on target throughout the rest of the match. It marked his second goal in his five appearances since joining Columbus.

Productive off bench Mendez had four shots (zero on goal), four crosses (zero accurate) and four corners in Saturday's 3-1 defeat versus Charlotte FC.
Impact Mendez replaced Chase Adams at halftime Saturday with his side down 2-1, and while he did not manage to pull off the comeback it was still a very productive day for the Columbus newcomer. He recorded four shots and four crosses, though he failed to record a shot on target or an accurate cross. However, he created four chances in his 45 minutes of action, an impressive mark for only one half of the match. He's clearly brought a spark to the Crew since joining, and he'll hope to make an even bigger impact once he inevitably joins the starting XI.
AUGUST 17 • ROTOWIRE
Scores equalizer in debut Mendez scored one goal to go with three shots (two on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Inter Miami CF.
Impact Mendez, who completed a transfer to Columbus in early July, finally made his club debut Saturday. He replaced Daniel Gazdag in the 61st minute with his side down 2-1, and it did not take long for him to ingratiate himself with Crew fans. He scored a free kick in the 84th minute to salvage a draw versus Miami, a perfect debut moment for the former Real Sociedad attacker. He will likely be joining the Crew's starting lineup sooner rather than later and will look to help get Columbus back into playoff contention.

Just starting to train Mendez is just starting to train and will not be available for Saturday's match against Cincinnati, according to coach Laurent Courtois, per Brianna Mac Kay.
Impact Mendez's limited training stems from a lack of match sharpness after signing recently from Real Sociedad, rather than any injury concern. His return to training marks an early step in his buildup with the club. His timeline for a return to the matchday squad remains unclear at this stage.

Joins Colombus Crew Mendez was acquired by the Columbus Crew from Real Sociedad through the 2028-2029 season with a club option for 2029-2030, the club announced.
Impact Mendez arrives in Major League Soccer as a Designated Player after nearly a decade in Spain's top flight, where he established himself as a consistent attacking presence from midfield. Across his spell with Real Sociedad, the 28-year-old registered 33 goals and 24 assists in 166 appearances, playing a key role in the club's qualification for the UEFA Champions League following the 2022-23 season. On the European stage, Mendez also made his mark in the Champions League, scoring three goals in seven appearances, including a standout opener in a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan on Sept. 20, 2023. Earlier this year, he helped Real Sociedad lift the Copa del Rey, featuring in the final victory over Atletico Madrid decided on penalties after a 2-2 draw. A product of the Celta Vigo academy, Mendez made his professional debut in September 2017 and went on to total 22 goals and 18 assists in 166 appearances for the club before his move to Sociedad. He has also been involved at international level with Spain, scoring on his senior debut in November 2018 in a 1-0 win over Bosnia and earning four caps to date.

Impact Mendez came off the bench with 26 minutes to go in the game and scored the second goal, which helped secure the match. This was his sixth goal of the season, having also provided two assists. The goal came from his only shot on target of the game. This was also his first goal since late January when he also scored coming off the bench.
APRIL 6 • ROTOWIRE
Clears ban Mendez is no longer banned and is an option moving forward.
Impact Mendez is back from his ban and set to play again, returning against Atletico Madrid. With 16 starts in 22 appearances and seven goal contributions, this is a huge gain back for the midfield, a solid catalyst when at his best.
MARCH 1 • ROTOWIRE
Set for suspension Mendez will serve a one-match ban due to an accumulation of five yellow cards in the La Liga.
Impact Mendez picked up his fifth yellow card in La Liga play and will be forced to sit out Saturday's showdown against Mallorca due to suspension. The midfielder has been a steady presence in the starting XI for the Basques all season long, so his absence creates a real opening in the middle of the park. Expect Carlos Soler to step into a bigger role, while Yangel Herrera is also in line for an uptick in minutes as the midfield rotation adjusts for that clash.
FEBRUARY 23 • ROTOWIRE
Option again Mendez is no longer suspended and is an option again.
Impact Mendez is off the sidelines after his suspension, with the midfielder set to face Oviedo on Saturday. With 15 starts in 21 appearances this campaign, to go along with five goals and two assists, he should return to a starting role in upcoming games.
FEBRUARY 15 • ROTOWIRE
Handed two-match ban Mendez received a two-game ban for the red card he received against Athletic Club, according to Oscar Badallo of MARCA.
Impact Real Sociedad are expected to appeal that ban, but if the approach is unsuccessful, then expect Mendez to be eligible to face Oviedo on Feb. 21.
FEBRUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Shown straight red card Sunday Mendez received a red card as a substitute during Sunday's 1-1 draw against Athletic.
Impact Mendez will be suspended at least for the upcoming meeting with Elche after being sent off in the Vasco derby. Despite tallying five goals and two assists in 21 appearances, he dropped to a bench role for the last two games, so his absence won't necessarily alter the starting lineup, with Carlos Soler and Luka Sucic aiming to retain their respective spots. The next chance for Mendez to play could come in a Feb. 14 visit to Real Madrid.
FEBRUARY 1 • ROTOWIRE
Convert penalty Mendez scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal) and one corner in Sunday's 3-1 win versus Celta Vigo.
Impact Mendez stepped onto the field for nine minutes Sunday but would still score a goal, stepping up and converting a penalty in injury time. That said, this comes only a game after his last goal, up to five this season. He now has seven goal contributions in 20 appearances (15 starts) this season.

Start with goal and assist Mendez scored one goal and assisted once from two shots and two chances created in Saturday's 3-2 win against Athletic.
Impact Since late-September, Mendez has started regularly, with five of six Betis' games including his starts. But in October, the midfielder logged a relatively quiet month, with two accurate crosses and two chances created being the best he could muster. Mendez kick-started his November by doubling his ongoing season's G/A from two to four. He has two goals and two assists in 10 appearances this season, nearly half of one G/A across double-digit games.

Scores in return Mendez (nose) scored a goal off three shots (two on target), created three chances, sent in seven crosses (three accurate), drew two fouls and was shown a yellow card during Friday...
Impact Mendez returned to the team after recovering from a broken nose that made him miss the last game before the international break and was one of the best players on the pitch despite being on the losing side. The attacker used a classy curly finish to draw things level at 1-1 in the 13th minute and then kept leading the offense the rest of the way. This was just the second start of the season for Mendez, but it shouldn't take much for him to become an undisputed first choice if he keeps playing like this.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Starting vs. Real Betis Mendez (nose) is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Real Betis.
Impact Mendez was dealing with a broken nose, but he's going to be playing while wearing a mask. The veteran playmaker will slot in midfield next to Jon Gorrotxategi and Pablo Marin.

Available against Betis Mendez (nose) is back available for Friday's game against Betis, the club posted.
Impact Mendez suffered a fractured nose in Saturday's game against Real Madrid but is back available for Friday's clash against Betis after resuming team training on Tuesday. This is good news for Real Sociedad since he is an important player in the midfield for them, although it remains to be seen if the coach will make him start or decide to play newcomer Carlos Soler in the heart of the game on Friday.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Back in team training Mendez (nose) was spotted back in team training on Tuesday, the club announced.
Impact Mendez suffered a nose fracture in Friday's training session and was ruled out of Saturday's clash against Real Madrid. The midfielder returned to team training on Tuesday, suggesting the injury is not serious and that he could be fit to play moving forward. That said, the club will likely take no risks with him, especially after signing Carlos Soler who will compete with him for a starting role in midfield.
