Officially let go by Jets The Jets waived Evans from the reserve/retired list Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Evans will hang up his cleats after a two-year NFL career. The 2023 sixth-round pick saw his only regular-season action in his rookie season with the Rams, when he turned nine carries into 19 yards across 10 games while mostly playing on special teams.

Set to retire from NFL The Jets placed Evans (undisclosed) on the reserve/retired list Monday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.
Impact Evans signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets in January after joining the team's practice squad in mid-December, but the 24-year-old will hang up his cleats. The 2023 sixth-rounder last saw regular-season action during his rookie campaign with the Rams, when he logged nine carries for 19 yards in 10 games while mostly serving on special teams. Evans finished his three-year college career with Ole Miss in 2022, where he rushed for 936 yards and nine touchdowns on 144 carries while adding 12 catches for 119 yards and one touchdown across 11 games.

Signs with Gang Green The Jets signed Evans to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Impact The 23-year-old was added to the Jets' practice squad mid-December after being cut from the Rams' practice squad in late August. Evans, a 2023 sixth-round pick from Ole Miss, appeared in 10 games with the Rams during his rookie campaign, taking nine carries for 19 yards across 16 offensive snaps.
JANUARY 6 • ROTOWIRE
Signed to Jets' practice squad The Jets signed Evans to the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Evans had been without a team since being cut from the Rams' practice squad in late August. He'll now give the Jets some depth at running back and could be elevated to the active roster if Braelon Allen (back) is unable to play Sunday against the Rams.
DECEMBER 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Jettisoned from Rams' taxi squad The Rams waived Evans from the practice squad Thursday.
Impact Evans was unable to make the Rams' 53-man roster Tuesday, but he was invited back to sign with the taxi squad the next day. However, the Rams claimed Cody Schrader off waivers from the 49ers on Wednesday, and with four running backs on the roster, it appears that Evans' services on the practice squad were no longer needed. Evans, who the Rams selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, finished the preseason strong with 45 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries against the Texans on Saturday. He played in 10 regular-season games in his rookie season, and he should get plenty of interest from teams who are looking to add depth to its backfield.

Waived by Los Angeles Evans was waived by the Rams on Tuesday.
Impact The running back ran for 45 yards and two touchdowns in the team's final preseason game but still fell short on cutdown day. Evans was fighting for a possible third spot behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. The 2023 sixth-round pick carried the ball just nine times for 19 yards as a rookie despite a rash of injuries in the Rams' backfield.

Scores twice in preseason finale Evans rushed 14 times for 45 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Saturday's preseason finale against the Texans.
Impact Evans split rushing duties with Boston Scott (leg) as the two had been doing all preseason sans starters. The former separated himself from the veteran in this contest by cashing in both of the Rams' rushing touchdowns on the day. The top three spots on the RB depth chart are firm, but Evans could sneak his way onto the roster ahead of Scott as RB4 if he the 2023 sixth-round pick is not stashed on the practice squad.

Hefty workload in spot start Evans gained 62 yards on 16 rushing attempts in Saturday's preseason win over the Chargers.
Impact Evans received the first running back touch for the Rams on Saturday, but he was far less efficient on a per-carry basis (3.9 yards) compared to veteran backup Boston Scott. The latter ripped off 55 yards on just 10 carries as the Rams rested the trio of tailbacks ahead of Saturday's actives on LA's depth chart. Neither of the tailbacks competing for a remaining roster spot received a target in the exhibition win.
AUGUST 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Makes little impact Sunday Evans carried the ball 12 times for 28 yards and caught his only target for 24 yards in Sunday's 13-12 preseason win over the Cowboys.
Impact Boston Scott played the first three quarters as the Rams' lead back, with Evans entering the game in the final quarter and gaining little on the ground. The duo appear to be at the bottom of the RB depth chart for the Rams, with Kyren Williams, rookie Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers all sitting out the team's preseason opener. Given Evans' usage Sunday, he would seem to have an uphill climb ahead of him just to make the 53-man roster.
AUGUST 12, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
On roster bubble? Evans faces a difficult path to earning a spot on the final roster and is a candidate to be cut before the start of the 2024 regular season, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Impact Evans, a 2023 sixth-round pick, only logged nine rush attempts for 19 yards across 10 regular-season appearances as a rookie, despite the Rams suffering a number of injuries within the backfield. Now, a healthy Kyren Williams remains entrenched atop the depth chart and projects for a workhorse role, while rookie third-rounder Blake Corum projects as his top backup. Boston Scott and Ronnie Rivers are relatively established as capable depth options, so unless he can truly impress in training camp, Evans may find himself the odd man out in Los Angeles' backfield.
JULY 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Just six yards in victory Evans rushed three times for six yards during Sunday's 37-14 victory against the Cardinals.
Impact Evans managed to keep his spot on the roster over Darrell Henderson with Kyren Williams returning, but his touches once again were uninspiring, and for the year he has a paltry 16 yards rushing on eight attempts. His three rushing attempts were also his only three snaps taken in the game, a far cry from the 41 of Williams and 23 of Royce Freeman. Evans will continue to be the tertiary option in the run game for the Rams barring a few injuries, and a matchup against a stout Browns defense doesn't inspire confidence for a Week 13 breakout.
NOVEMBER 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Healthy scratch against Cowboys Evans (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Impact When Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) went down, it was expected that Evans would see an expanded role in the backfield. Instead, he played zero offensive snaps in Week 7 and is now a healthy scratch. Darrell Henderson and Royce Freeman figure to be the primary running backs, while Myles Gaskin will join them among active players in what will likely be a special-teams-centric role.
OCTOBER 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
No offensive snaps Evans took four snaps on special teams during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Steelers.
Impact The Rams chose to lean on Royce Freeman (12-66-0) and Darrell Henderson (18-61-1) to spearhead the rushing attack, while Evans made only a few appearances on special teams and never saw a snap on offense. The sixth-round rookie will likely have even more competition for playing time next week, as Myles Gaskin, who just signed with the Rams on Tuesday, was inactive against Pittsburgh. It's hard to see a viable role in the short term for Evans with the glut of backs added to the roster, and a matchup against a Cowboys defense that just held Austin Ekeler and the Chargers to 53 yards rushing in Week 6 doesn't inspire confidence in a sudden breakout performance.
OCTOBER 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Looks set to remain backup Week 7 Evans is expected to serve as a backup option behind Royce Freeman and Darrell Henderson in Sunday's game against the Steelers, sources tell Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Impact While he was active for just the second time all season in last week's win over the Cardinals, Evans picked up his first NFL carries late in the contest once Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) went down with injuries. Even though Williams and Rivers have since been moved to injured reserve and are set to miss at least the Rams' next four games, Evans doesn't look like he'll be in line to climb to the top of the depth chart, as the Rams reportedly believe the rookie sixth-round pick out of Ole Miss needs more time to learn the offense and acclimate to the NFL. Though he's still expected to be active over the recently signed Myles Gaskin on Sunday, Evans looks like he'll be ticketed for the No. 3 role while practice-squad imports Freeman and Henderson are first in line for work. Schefter relays that Freeman is likely to start, but how the Steelers defense lines up as well as how Freeman and Henderson fare will dictate which of the two leads the backfield in the weeks to come while Williams and Rivers are on the mend. Evans is expected to be "sprinkled in" to the backfield rotation Sunday, per Schefter, but the 22-year-old appears unlikely to get more than a handful of touches.

Could get starting nod Week 7 Evans appears to be first in line to serve as the Rams' starting running back Sunday against the Steelers with Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) trending toward multi...
Impact The Rams have since signed Freeman to the roster and also re-signed Darrell Henderson -- who appeared in 50 games with the team from 2019 through 2022 -- to replace Freeman on the practice squad. Additionally, the Rams signed Myles Gaskin off the Vikings' practice squad, leaving him, Evans and Freeman as the team's likely backfield options for at least Week 7. Gaskin and Freeman both have more extensive NFL experience than Evans, a sixth-round pick out of Ole Miss, but the rookie was active for the last two games over Freeman, who stayed on the practice squad in Weeks 5 and 6. Evans gained a modest 10 yards on his four carries in the fourth quarter this past Sunday, but he was a blue-chip recruit coming out of high school and an efficient runner during his time in college (career 6.9 yards per carry). He could end up serving as the Rams' lead option on the ground against the Steelers while Freeman and/or Gaskin handle change-of-pace duties. The possibility also exists that McVay could opt for more of a committee approach with two or three of the backs sans Williams and Rivers, making Evans a risky lineup option for Week 7. Even so, since he's less of a known commodity than NFL journeymen like Freeman and Gaskin, Evans probably represents the most intriguing waiver-wire pickup of the lot.
OCTOBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Could be in line for more work With Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) battling injuries, Evans could be in line for an increased role Sunday against the Steelers.
Impact Williams is expected to miss Week 7, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, while Rivers is reportedly battling a sprained PCL. Evans was a sixth-round pick by the Rams in the 2023 Draft but has played just six offensive snaps, all of which came Week 6 against Arizona when Evans rushed four times for 10 yards in relief. Royce Freeman is on the Rams' practice squad and would likely be elevated should Williams and Rivers sit. Both backs figure to be popular waiver-wire pickups in fantasy this week.
