To undergo season-ending surgery Coach Matt Eberflus said Friday that Siemian will undergo season-ending surgery on his oblique, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact Siemian was slated to fill in for an absent Justin Fields (shoulder) this past Sunday at the Jets, but he injured his oblique in warmups and suddenly was a game-time decision. He ended up playing through the pain and logged all 56 offense snaps in the loss while completing 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In the wake of the performance, Siemian was unable to practice during Week 13 prep and now will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign. Fields is in line to return Sunday against the Packers, and Eberflus noted practice-squad member Nathan Peterman will be the backup quarterback, even with the Bears signing Tim Boyle of the Lions' practice squad Wednesday.

Impact Chicago's top two quarterbacks figure to be listed on the injury report the same way they were Wednesday, when top signal-caller Justin Fields (shoulder) appeared as a limited participant. Even though Siemian received the starting nod in place of the injured Fields in Week 12, it's the former player who may be more in danger of sitting out this Sunday's game against the Packers. Though he suffered the oblique injury in pregame warmups, Siemian managed to play through the issue, but he wasn't particularly effective (14-for-25 for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception). The Bears signed Tim Boyle off the Lions' practice squad Wednesday, and he could be in line to direct the offense this Sunday if neither Fields nor Siemian is available to play. Chicago also has Nathan Peterman on the practice squad as another option at the position.

He wasn't especially effective, however, completing 14 of 25 attempts for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Fields is practicing in a limited capacity Wednesday and hasn't been ruled out for the Bears' matchup with the Packers in Week 13, though his availability looks truly uncertain. With their top two quarterbacks managing injuries, the Bears were motivated to add another healthy signal-caller to the mix and did so by signing Tim Boyle off Detroit's practice squad Wednesday.

New York's defense woke up after that, holding Siemian and the Bears in check the rest of the way. His final pass was an interception on first and goal, after which the Jets ran out the final 5:04. If Justin Fields (shoulder) feels good enough to play against the Packers in Week 13, Siemian will be back on the bench, but keep in mind that Chicago could play it safe with the second-year starter's injury by having Fields sit out through the Bears' Week 14 bye.
