Raiders, Falcons both look to bounce back from losses

The Las Vegas Raiders will be looking to bounce back from a tough loss to the Super Bowl champion Chiefs when they travel to Atlanta

DNP on Thursday Gurley (knee) was listed as a non-participant on Thursday's estimated practice report, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.

Impact Gurley has yet to log any practice reps this week as he tends to a knee concern. There's been no indication that the injury is threatening his ability to play Sunday against the Raiders. Having said that, Gurley's status could be clarified when the Falcons release their final Week 12 injury report Friday.

Shut down on limited workload Gurley registered 26 rushing yards on eight carries, collecting one of two targets for three receiving yards during Sunday's 24-9 loss to the Saints.

Impact Gurley's eight rush attempts fell six short of his previous season low, as he didn't garner a single offensive touch after Atlanta fell into a 15-point hole with 12:41 to go in the fourth quarter. Game flow certainly didn't work in the two-time All-Pro's favor, but he was inefficient in posting just a 3.3 yards-per-carry average against New Orleans' No. 2 rush defense. A Week 12 matchup against the Raiders may open things up on the ground, as Las Vegas is tied for 24th in the NFL with 4.6 yards per rush surrendered to opposing backs.

Impact The two-time All-Pro entered Sunday tied with Derrick Henry for second in the NFL with eight rushing touchdowns, and he added another to the ledger by way of a four-yard TD at the 9:05 mark of the fourth quarter Sunday. With an abundant workload of 17.7 carries per game, Gurley also ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yardage despite his 3.7 yards-per-carry average. He is the only one of the league's top six rushers to post a YPC average of worse than 4.5. Gurley's 15 total catches through nine games are underwhelming, but if the goal-line and general usage remains, he'll continue to be an elite option. A challenging Week 11 matchup awaits following Atlanta's bye, with the Saints' No. 3 rush defense on the docket Nov. 22.

Mixed bag in Week 8 win Gurley rushed 18 times for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 25-17 win over the Panthers on Thursday night.

Impact Gurley was able to get into the end zone for the eighth time this season on a three-yard run early in the fourth quarter, a score that would prove to the final one for either team on the night. However, the former Pro Bowler also was spelled liberally by Brian Hill on multiple series, resulting in the latter logging a season-high 11 carries. While Gurley still posted his fourth-highest amount of rushing touches for the season, the tape seems to clearly indicate Hill is the much quicker back at this stage of the two players' respective careers. Whether a similar workload split is reprised in a Week 9 interconference matchup against the Broncos on Sunday, Nov. 8 remains to be seen, but it's also worth noting the Atlanta defense would have to continue performing at a similar caliber for the Falcons to have the luxury of running the ball as frequently as they did Thursday.
