Fills in for Chark Thursday
Austin caught one of three targets for eight yards during Sunday's 24-21 loss at Cincinnati.
Impact
Austin was activated from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game and wasn't expected have a significant role in his season debut, but he ended up playing 41 of 56 offensive snaps -- which ranked third among Jacksonville's wideouts -- after DJ Chark went down with a broken ankle early in the first quarter. The 31-year-old tied with Marvin Jones for second on the team in targets, all three of which came in the short passing game. Austin appears set to work as the Jaguars' No. 3 wideout behind Jones and Laviska Shenault, but the veteran journeyman is unlikely to have a significant role in the passing game week-to-week.

Joins Week 4 roster
The Jaguars activated Austin (quadriceps) from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game against the Bengals, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Impact
After missing Jacksonville's first three games while residing on IR, Austin returned to practice Monday, and the team apparently saw enough from him in their three sessions this week to deem him ready for game action. Though he's now a member of the 53-man roster, Austin won't necessarily be one of the team's 46 active players Thursday. He's likely behind all of DJ Chark, Marvin Jones, Laviska Shenault and Tyron Johnson on the depth chart at receiver, and Jamal Agnew is probably secure as Jacksonville's return specialist after he brought back a kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown Week 2 and a missed field goal for a 109-yard score Week 3.

Designated to return from IR
Austin (quad) has been designated to return from IR by the Jaguars.
Impact
With that, the Jaguars now have a three-week window during which Austin can be added to their active roster. If not, he'll remain on IR. In the meantime, Austin can practice, and assuming he does find his way back into the mix, the 31-year-old will provide the team with WR/return depth.

Shifts to injured reserve
Austin (quadriceps) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, Mark Long of the Associated Press reports.
Impact
Coach Urban Meyer said earlier this week that Austin would be ready for the season opener, but the wideout instead landed on the injured list a couple days later. The 31-year-old will be eligible to return for Week 4, though it's unclear if he's expected to be healthy by that point. Tyron Johnson, who was claimed off waivers Wednesday, and Jamal Agnew will serve as Jacksonville's depth options at wide receiver.

Expected to play Week 1
Coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday that Austin (quad) should be good to go for the Sept. 12 season opener, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Austin injured his quadriceps during Friday's practice, but it does not appear to be too serious. The Jaguars only kept five wideouts on their initial 53-man roster, so it is likely that Austin will play a prominent role in the offense. The 31-year-old speedster spent time with the 49ers and Packers last season, and only appeared in four games, catching five passes for 20 yards.

Injures quad Friday
Austin suffered a quadriceps strain at Friday's practice and is day-to-day, Jamal St. Cyrof News4JAX reports.
Impact
Austin will likely miss Sunday's preseason finale against the Cowboys due to his injury, but a day-to-day timetable means he could be healthy in time for the regular-season opener against Houston on Sept. 12. With rookie first-round pick Travis Etienne (foot) done for the season, there could be more opportunities for Austin to earn offensive touches.

Signing with Jags
Austin is signing with the Jaguars, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact
The Jags are dealing with some WR injuries, but it's nonetheless an unusual fit for Austin, as the team already has a pair of return specialists in Jamal Agnew and Pharoh Cooper. The 31-year-old Austin will face long odds to make the Week 1 roster.

Plays bit role in 2020
Austin recorded five receptions for 20 yards and returned three punts for 14 yards over four games with the Packers in 2020.
Impact
Austin spent the early portion of the season with the 49ers and didn't join Green Bay until late November, leaving him with limited time to establish a consistent role in the Packers offense. The eight-year veteran will hit free agency this spring and should get a look with a team, but it's unclear if the Packers plan to re-sign him.

Loses fumble in finale
Austin caught one pass for seven yards and lost a fumble while returning a punt in Sunday's victory over the Bears.
Impact
Austin's most notable impact on Sunday's game was a negative play, as his first-quarter fumble gave the Bears the ball on the Packers' 20-yard line. Despite the mishap, Austin figures to continue serving as both the Packers' punt returner and a gadget player on offense unless Tyler Ervin (foot) returns to action.

Snap count increases
Austin caught both his targets for five yards in Sunday's victory over the Titans.
Impact
Austin did not do much of note in Sunday's contest, but he did receive 17 snaps after playing just four snaps in each of his first two appearances with the Packers. Austin does not figure to play much more than he did Sunday, but he should continue getting a few snaps per week to give opposing defenses one more thing to think about.

Not targeted in Week 15
Austin was not targeted in Saturday's victory over the Panthers.
Impact
Austin caught a couple passes in his Packers debut in Week 14, but he did not touch the ball on offense and was limited to punt-return duties in Saturday's contest. It's unlikely Austin's role will change much in Week 16, as the Packers will presumably rely on their longer-tenured players as they attempt to lock up the top seed in the NFC.
