Back to practice squad Shepard reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Impact Shepard was on the field for 17 of the Jets' 32 offensive snaps as the team finished with a time possession of 17:15, and he failed to haul in his lone target from Geno Smith. It was the second time this season that the veteran wide receiver was promoted from the practice squad, and he's eligible for one more elevation before the Jets would be required to sign him to the active roster. Shepard could be brought up for Week 5 against the Browns on Oct. 11 if Adonai Mitchell (finger) is not cleared to play.

Elevated ahead of Week 4 The Jets elevated Shepard from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday.

Impact Shepard is set to suit up on game day for the second straight week. Last Sunday in Detroit, the veteran wideout logged a healthy workload of 30 offensive snaps -- third-most among New York wideouts -- and caught his only target for three yards. Shepard could also garner a significant role this Sunday with Adonai Mitchell again ruled out due to a finger injury.

Impact In his first action of the season, Shepard played 30 of 66 offensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Lions, though he was targeted just one time. With Adonai Mitchell (finger) battling an injury, Shepard could again be elevated ahead of next Sunday's game against the Bears. He has no fantasy appeal.

Gets PS deal with NYJ The Jets signed Shepard to the practice squad Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Impact Shepard failed to make the Texans' 53-man roster at the end of training camp after signing with the team Aug. 21. He'll get a fresh opportunity with the Jets, and he's a candidate to be elevated to the active roster for Week 2 against the Jets if rookie first-rounder Omar Cooper (ankle) is unable to play. Shepard appeared in 13 regular-season games for the Buccaneers in 2025, finishing with a 39-371-1 receiving line on 53 targets while adding four carries for 19 yards.

Cut loose by Houston Shepard was released by the Texans on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact Shepard signed with Houston on Aug. 21 after trying out with the team, but he will now hit the open market again ahead of the 2026 campaign. The 33-year-old had a productive season with the Buccaneers in 2025, securing 39 of 53 targets for 371 yards and a touchdown over 13 regular-season contests while operating in a depth role. The wideout will likely find another suitor, but he hasn't exceeded 400 receiving yards in a season since 2020, making him an unappealing fantasy option.
