To handle kicking duties moving forward Coach Andy Reid said Shrader will handle all kicking duties for the Chiefs during Harrison Butker's (knee) absence, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.

Impact Butker underwent surgery on the meniscus in his left knee Friday, resulting in his placement on injured reserve. As such, he'll miss at least four games during his recovery, a stretch that will allow Shrader to be the team's regular placekicker. Shrader has appeared in two games as a fill-in for the Colts and Jets this season, connecting on both field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries.

Impact With Harrison Butker suffering a left knee injury that will likely result in his placement on injured reserve, Shrader is poised to take over as Kansas City's kicker beginning with Sunday's game against the Bills. An undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame, Shrader has previously made one appearance apiece for the Colts and the Jets this season, converting on field-goal attempts for 45 and 25 yards while going 3-for-3 on extra-point tries. During his five-year collegiate career, Shrader knocked down 68.3 percent of his field goals and had a long of 54 yards.

Impact With Greg Zuerlein (knee) on injured reserve, Shrader was the second kicker in as many games to get a chance, taking over for the the cut Riley Patterson in Week 10 at Arizona. Shrader connected on both of his field-goal attempts but didn't get a PAT. He's one of two kickers on the Jets' practice squad -- also, Anders Carlson -- but considering Shrader got the call this week, he likely has better odds to do so again this coming Sunday against the Colts.

Set to kick for NYJ in Week 10 The Jets elevated Shrader from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup versus Arizona, John Pullano of the team's official site reports.

Impact Shrader's elevation Saturday confirms that it will be he, rather than Anders Carlson (who was signed to New York's practice squad Friday), who will work as the Jets' placekicker Sunday. Shrader was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in May and served as Indianapolis' kicker in Week 1, making all three of his extra-point tries and not attempting any field goals. The Notre Dame product eventually landed with New York's practice squad Oct. 30, and he'll now get the opportunity to kick in his second NFL game. Shrader will replace Riley Patterson, who was cut by New York on Friday after kicking in the team's Week 9 win over Houston. Greg Zuerlein has been the Jets' kicker most of the season, but he's made just nine of 15 field-goal attempts on the campaign and is slated to miss at least three more games while on IR due to a knee injury.

Impact Shrader signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in the spring, and due to a Matt Gay injury was their Week 1 kicker, and made all three PATs, but didn't get to attempt a field goal. Since then he has bounced off and on the team's practice squad. He'll now spend Wednesday competing with Riley Patterson to see who will kick for the Jets on Thursday against the Texans, as Greg Zuerlein (knee) is not expected to play.
