Impact The Bills received good news to their offensive line the past few days, as two starters -- Brown and Rodger Saffold -- both returned from injury. Heading into the preseason, the high-powered offense looks to be mostly in good health.

Underwent offseason surgery Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday that Brown underwent an undisclosed procedure this offseason, Katherine Fitzgerald of the Buffalo News reports.

Impact McDermott didn't appear to be too concerned about Brown's surgery, saying he believes the offensive lineman -- along with the majority of guys dealing with issues during OTAs -- will be ready for training camp. The 2021 third-round pick is slotted to be the Bills' starting right tackle again in 2022.

Impact Brown was placed on the COVID-19 list Nov. 18, and he has missed his last two games. With his return to the active roster, Brown should slide back into his starting job at right tackle Monday against the Patriots.

Impact Daryl Williams will likely slide into a starting right tackle role for the duration of Brown's absence. Brown will almost certainly miss Sunday's game against the Colts, and the possibility of a return for the Bills' Week 12 trip to New Orleans is made less likely by that game being Thursday, just one week after Brown's placement on the list.

Impact The rookie has missed the team's last two games but seems to have a realistic shot of resuming his starting role this week against the Jets. Originally considered a nice upside pick that would have time to develop, the hulking lineman has already taken on a key role in the offense, one that has performed uncharacteristically poor without Brown in the lineup the last two games.

Impact The Bills now have some issues on their offensive line, with Brown missing a second straight game and fellow starter Jon Feliciano also ruled out with a calf injury. The Bills have decent depth on their line and would still probably be heavily favored against the Jags even if you took out all five starters, but know there are some chinks in the armor for this high-powered offense. A couple more injuries would probably have an effect on the stat sheet.

Buffalo adds big offensive tackle The Bills drafted Brown in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 93rd overall.

Impact Brown is a huge (6-foot-8, 311 pounds) and fast (4.94-second 40) tackle prospect out of Northern Iowa, making him one of the best rookie athletes among offensive linemen in league history. His overall skills are more of a question mark coming out of the FCS ranks, and it would be far from surprising if he needs development time before seeing the field. He realistically won't be able to compete for more than a swing backup role behind Dion Dawkins and Daryl Williams during his rookie year. If Brown can eventually round out into a starter, his upside would be enormous, and suffice to say, defenders won't want to see him running downfield as a lead blocker for Josh Allen.
