Impact Michel played eight snaps to Isaiah Spiller's 10, but neither back was able to muster much on the ground. At this point it's clear the veteran is on the wrong side of a backup platoon, and it probably won't get more fruitful with Joshua Kelley (knee) likely coming off injured reserve soon.

Impact Michel played 11 snaps to Isaiah Spiller's 13, but the rookie turned those opportunities into seven carries, a role the veteran previously seemed to occupy earlier this season. At this point, it's clear Michel is no better than No. 3 on the depth chart, and it's possible he could fall even further with Joshua Kelley (knee) eligible to return off injured reserve in two weeks.

Impact The score was 17-0 before the Chargers put together their first scoring drive, essentially capping Michel's opportunities within the first 15 minutes. The backup at least outpaced rookie Isaiah Spiller in snaps by a 13-4 margin in the wake of Joshua Kelley's (knee) absence, but it's hard to really draw many conclusions about the backup job given the blowout nature of this game.

Steps in as key backup Michel tallied eight carries for 28 yards and caught all three of his targets for 14 yards in the 19-16 win over the Broncos on Monday.
Impact It appeared last week that Joshua Kelley had outplayed Michel for the backup job behind Austin Ekeler, but Kelley suffered a knee injury Monday, which allowed Michel to see a much larger snap share. While the journeyman back still didn't explode for any big runs, he was primarily the team's short-yardage option, impacting his yards per attempt. If Kelley is out for an extended period of time, Michel could find himself fighting for backup snaps with rookie Isaiah Spiller, who has been a healthy inactive most of the season.

Impact It's entirely possible the Chargers were simply riding the hot hand, but in a game in which Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelley combined to tally 26 carries, Michel seeing just one against a pitiful Browns run defense is telling. Even more alarming, Michel saw just two snaps total, whereas Kelley tallied 27 in what had been otherwise a relatively even platoon split at backup running back. At this point, Michel's value may only be as a backup plan to Kelley in the event Ekeler were to miss time, elevating the aforementioned third-year player into a more relevant role.

Ineffective in win Michel tallied six carries for 11 yards in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Texans. He also caught all three of his targets for 16 yards.
Impact Michel only played 17 offensive snaps, combining with Joshua Kelley (14 snaps) to reprieve Austin Ekeler, who scored three touchdowns and tallied 100-plus total yards in a dominant performance. Through four games, Michel is averaging an abysmal 2.6 yards per carry, but he's clearly defined as the between-the-tackles substitute for Ekeler compared to Kelley, who has been a bit more flexible as a backup in the Chargers' scheme.
