Seahawks add depth at CB trading for Sidney Jones from Jags

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired cornerback Sidney Jones IV in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars

Sent to Seattle The Jaguars traded Jones to the Seahawks on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact According to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com, the Jaguars received a 2022 sixth-round draft pick in return. Given the Jaguars' depth at cornerback, Jones may have been cut outright if it wasn't for the trade. The 2017 second-round pick hasn't played more than 322 defensive snaps in a season, and he's played a total of 31 games through four years in the league. Only 25 years old, Jones now steps into a situation that has plenty of ambiguity behind expected starters D.J. Reed and Ahkello Witherspoon.

Impact Jones has been dealing with this injury for over a month, and the Jaguars are choosing to shut down the 24-year-old cornerback with nothing to play for besides pride. The 2017 second-round pick finished the 2020 season with 26 tackles, nine pass breakups, two interceptions and a forced fumble through nine games. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in March.
