Loses Miami kicking job The Dolphins released Patterson Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact Miami will part ways with Patterson coming out of its Week 6 bye, after the kicker converted on seven of nine field-goal tries and five of six extra-point attempts through the team's first five games. Per NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins are expected to replace Patterson with Zane Gonzalez, who worked out for the team Tuesday and will be signed either to 53-man roster or practice squad.

Misses PAT vs. Cincinnati Patterson made his lone field-goal attempt and went 1-for-2 one extra-point tries during the Dolphins' 31-24 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

Impact Patterson's only field goal was a 29-yard chip shot late in the third quarter, but he missed his first point-after try of the season late in the fourth quarter. He's attempted only one field goal in each of the Dolphins' last three games, and his weekly scoring floor figures to be lower than most kickers given that Miami averages only 14.0 points per game this season, which is second-worst in the NFL only behind the Titans (11.6). The Dolphins are on a bye Week 6 before hitting the road for a Week 7 AFC East tilt against the Jets on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Limited action in low-scoring loss Patterson made his only field-goal attempt and extra-point try during Sunday's 15-10 loss to Minnesota.

Impact Patterson was limited to just one field-goal try for the second straight week, converting a 27-yarder early in the third quarter. The kicker has gone 6-for-8 on field-goal attempts this season, and he doesn't seem likely to suddenly see more opportunities moving forward while finishing off the drives of Miami's low-scoring offense.

Makes only FGA in loss Patterson made his only field-goal attempt and extra-point try during Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Chiefs.

Impact Patterson finished off the Dolphins' first possession of the second half, converting a 37-yard field-goal try to narrow the deficit to 14-10. He didn't attempt another field goal during the contest, making it the first game this year during which he did not have multiple field-goal tries. Through three games, the kicker has gone 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts, including 0-for-1 from 50-plus yards, and he may not get many opportunities when Miami squares off with Minnesota's impressive defense in Week 4.

Impact Patterson appears to be achieving the wrong kind of consistency. The kicker once again converted 67 percent of his field-goal attempts, missing one of his three kicks, as he did in the Dolphins' Week 1 loss to the Raiders. Patterson moves to 4-for-6 on field-goal attempts this season and 2-for-2 on PATs.
