Impact James struggled to begin Sunday's matchup, as he lost two fumbles on punt returns prior to exiting the game. While he'll have several steps to clear as part of the league's concussion protocol, he'll have an additional week to recover since the Giants have a Week 9 bye.

Impact James saw exactly two targets for the third straight week, and he finished with a season low in receiving yardage. After totaling 14 catches for 146 yards through the first three weeks of the campaign, the former 49er has just six receptions for 45 yards in four games since as he has tumbled down New York's wide receiver depth chart. The Giants' pass-catching hierarchy is far from settled, but James doesn't appear likely to slide back into fantasy relevance in the near future.

Impact James didn't start in the Week 4 win over Chicago and finished with season lows for snap share (32 percent) and targets (three), following three straight games with either four or five receptions to start the campaign. He'll likely be more involved this week, with Kenny Golladay (knee), Kadarius Toney (hamstring) and Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) all ruled out and Sterling Shepard (ACL) done for the season. The Giants are left with only James, David Sills and Darius Slayton as their healthy WRs on the active roster, which means at least one of Marcus Johnson, Makai Polk and Kalil Pimpleton will be called up from the practice squad for Sunday's game. Nobody besides RB Saquon Barkley is a lock to handle the ball more than a few times, but James at least is among the favorites to see targets from QB Daniel Jones, who also was cleared to play after dealing with an ankle injury.

Head coach Brian Daboll seemingly supported that notion earlier Thursday, when he told Dan Duggan of The Athletic that James would be "fine" for Sunday. Whether James approaches the contest with an injury designation could hinge on him returning to full participation in Friday's practice.

Impact This might explain, at least partially, why James dropped from 31 or more snaps and five or more targets in each of the Giants' first three games down to 21 snaps (32 percent) and three targets in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Bears. His role was scaled back early on, however, so it may have been more about the Giants giving Kenny Golladay (knee) another chance without taking David Sills off the field. Golladay then left the game early, at which point Darius Slayton got significant playing time for the first time this year. At this early point in the week with so many guys injured, it's nearly impossible to decipher who will get targets at WR for the Giants this Sunday against the Packers in London.

However, James had a particularly disappointing effort, especially considering he lost a fumble on his lone catch of the day.

Impact It's been quite an ascension for James, who wasn't guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster when he signed with New York this March after missing all of 2021 with a knee injury. The former 49er has been consistent but unspectacular so far this season, finishing with either four or five catches for between 36 and 59 yards in each contest. Overall, he leads the team with 14 catches on 17 targets and ranks second to Sterling Shepard -- who is now out for the year with an Achilles tear -- with 146 receiving yards. Neither Kenny Golladay nor Darius Slayton has done much so far this season, so James could continue to work as a starter even after Toney and Robinson return.
