Won't play Friday
White (hamstring) isn't suited up Friday's preseason in Baltimore.
Impact
White has been tending to a hamstring injury since last Wednesday that will keep him sidelined for the Commanders' final two exhibitions. He was able to mix into individual drills as recently as Monday, though, so he's making progress in his recovery. White will join No. 1 RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt (lower body) and Jeremy McNichols (quadriceps on the sideline Friday.

Back in individual drills Monday
Coach Dan Quinn said White (hamstring) will participate in individual drills at Monday's practice, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.
Impact
White has been sidelined since last Wednesday due to a hamstring injury and didn't suit up for Saturday's preseason game at Detroit. Now that he's back in the mix at practice, he can continue staking a claim to a Commanders backfield that currently is without top incumbent Jacory Croskey-Merritt (lower body).

Working off to side at practice Thursday
White (hamstring) was in uniform for Thursday's practice and was seen working out off to the side catching passes from a JUGS machine, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Though White has been ruled out for the Commanders' second preseason game Saturday versus the Lions, he appears to be progressing in his recovery from the hamstring injury, which kept him off the field entirely a day earlier. So long as White is able to return to team drills before the end of the preseason or during Week 1 prep, he should be ready to handle a change-of-pace role out of the Washington backfield in the Sept. 13 season opener in Philadelphia.

Won't play in Saturday's preseason game
White (hamstring) won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
While White, who was hurt during the Commanders' recent joint practice versus Miami, won't suit up this weekend, he was spotted on the field during the early portion of Thursday's session, which will be a lighter practice, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. White's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 28, in the team's exhibition finale against the Ravens.

Nursing hamstring injury
White has missed the last few days of practice with a hamstring injury, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact
White's issue was previously unknown, but Garafolo adds the hamstring injury isn't considered serious or a long-term problem. The veteran running back is expected to fill the pass-down role in Washington's backfield alongside Jacory Croskey-Merrit, who is the favorite to handle early-down carries.

Missing practice with undisclosed injury
White isn't practicing Wednesday due to an unspecified injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn could provide more specifics after practice, but White's absence looks to be more than a simple veteran's rest day. After inking a one-year deal with Washington in the offseason, White is expected to work as the top change-of-pace option behind Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who will likely lead the ground attack.

Penciled in as No. 2 RB at camp
White was listed as the Commanders' No. 2 running back on the team's unofficial depth chart Monday, Zach Selby of the team's official website reports.
Impact
White joined Washington in the offseason, inking a one-year deal with the team in March. Head coach Dan Quinn named White as a standout performer from OTAs and minicamp, but at this point, second-year pro Jacory Croskey-Merritt appears to have the edge as the No. 1 option in the backfield heading into the 2026 campaign. White was able to turn 132 carries into 572 yards and four touchdowns while also adding 40 catches and 218 yards through the air over 17 regular-season contests with the Buccaneers in 2025, marking the third time in his four-year career that he was active for the entire regular season.

Named as offseason standout

Impact
The Commanders also have Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Kaytron Allen, Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols competing for playing time, with Croskey-Merritt presumably being the other favorite to start. White easily has the most NFL experience of the group as both a rusher and pass catcher, but his efficiency on the ground was often a negative in Tampa Bay -- which is why he settled for a one-year, $2 million contract after piling up 4,106 yards from scrimmage and 25 TDs in four seasons. He's making a good impression with his new team and seems locked in for a Week 1 role, though it remains to be seen if White will get considerable rushing volume or be deployed more like a passing-down specialist.
