Targeted once in loss Dorsett did not catch his lone target and played 14 snaps in Sunday's 23-10 loss to Washington

Impact Dorsett's usage was down after he entered the game on an upswing, having caught eight of 17 targets for 142 yards and a touchdown over the last four games. The Texans claimed wideout Amari Rodgers off waivers from Green Bay last week, so Dorsett's role could diminish even further down the stretch.

Upgrades to full practice Dorsett (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.

Impact Dorsett's full workout Thursday puts him in line to suit up Sunday against the Giants, but the receiver could be in line for a more muted role after compiling 10 targets between the past two contests while playing more than three-quarters of the Texans' snaps on offense in both of those games. Houston's top two wideouts -- Nico Collins (chest) and Brandin Cooks (wrist) -- both sat out the team's Week 9 loss to the Eagles, but the two were able to practice Thursday in a limited capacity and are seemingly trending toward returns to the lineup this weekend.

Limited due to ankle injury Dorsett (ankle) was a limited in Wednesday's practice.

Impact Dorsett filled in as a starter last Thursday against the Eagles, catching three of five targets for 69 yards in a 29-17 loss with both Brandin Cooks (personal/wrist) and Nico Collins (groin) inactive. Collins returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant, while Cooks is back with the team but didn't practice.

Team-high receiving yardage total Dorsett secured three of five targets for 69 yards in the Texans' 29-17 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night.

Impact Dorsett enjoyed an expanded role with Brandin Cooks (wrist/personal) and Nico Collins (groin) unavailable, and he took advantage of the opportunity by posting a team-high receiving yardage tally. Dorsett also tied Chris Moore for the team lead in targets, and although Cooks at minimum could be back in action for a Week 10 matchup versus the Giants, Dorsett has demonstrated some utility as a complementary option by posting a 6-120-1 line over his last three games.

Impact With Collins out this past Sunday against the Titans, Dorsett started and logged 45 of a possible 54 snaps on offense en route to catching one of his five targets for six yards. Now that Cooks is on track to sit out Thursday along with Collins, Dorsett and Chris Moore likely will lead the Texans' Week 9 wideout corps, with Tyron Johnson also in the mix as a third option at receiver. While no member of the trio profiles as a high-percentage fantasy lineup option, Dorsett should at least log plenty of snaps versus Philadelphia. He thus represents an option for those in deeper formats who need to replace Cooks or are in need of short-term wideout depth with six NFL teams on bye this week.

Does little with five targets Dorsett caught one of five targets for six yards in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Titans.

Impact With Nico Collins (groin) sidelined, Dorsett saw a season high in targets but wasn't able to get on the same page as quarterback Davis Mills. No. 1 wideout Brandin Cooks is rumored to be on the trade block, so even if Collins is back in action next week against the Eagles, Dorsett could still find himself in a starting role and with an opportunity to develop some chemistry with Mills in the second half.

Can Phillip Dorsett Help Texans Fill Void Amid Nico Collins Injury? With Nico Collins out due to an injury, can veteran wide receiver Phillip Dorsett step up for the Houston Texans?

OCTOBER 27, 2022 • NEWSOBSERVER.COM

Waiting on opportunity Dorsett is likely to step into a starting role at receiver Sunday against the Titans if Nico Collins (groin) is unable to play, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Impact Following Collins' early exit in the Week 7 loss to the Raiders, Dorsett stepped in as the primary replacement and caught two of three targets for 45 yards -- including a 25-yard touchdown -- over a season-high 35 snaps. The two receivers are notably different in stature and frame, so the 5-foot-10, 192-pound Dorsett wouldn't be used in the same fashion as Collins (6-foot-4, 215 pounds). That means instead of having a matchup advantage based on size, Dorsett will have to use his speed and sense of defensive coverages to get open.

Finds end zone in loss to Raiders Dorsett caught two of three targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Raiders.

Impact The veteran wideout's only reception of the season prior to Sunday came back in eek 3, but Dorsett got a little more involved in this one and got into the end zone for the first time since 2019 when he hauled in a 25-yard toss from Davis Mills late in the third quarter. Houston's thin WR group got a little thinner Sunday when Nico Collins suffered a groin injury, and Brandin Cooks might be on the trade block, so Dorsett could be headed for a much more significant role in Week 8 against the Titans.

Minimal role in win Dorsett was not targeted over 11 snaps in Week 5's 13-6 win over Jacksonville.

Impact With Chris Moore (hip) unavailable, this looked like a good spot for Dorsett to earn more playing time, but instead the little-used Tyler Johnson (25 snaps) was the beneficiary. Dorsett has appeared in four games this season, catching one pass on four targets for 15 yards over 39 snaps.

Active for Week 3 Dorsett caught his lone target for 15 yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Bears in Week 3.

Impact Dorsett returned to the active roster after a Week 2 inactive and played 13 snaps. He remains the No. 4 option behind Chris Moore (31 snaps) on the depth chart in a low-wattage Houston passing game.

Inactive in Week 2 Dorsett (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 2 clash against the Broncos.

Impact After logging four snaps in the Week 1 tie with the Colts and failing to come up with his lone target, Dorsett won't see the field in Week 2. The veteran speedster's inactive status locks in No. 4 receiver duties for Chris Conley versus Denver.

Impacts Friday's game Dorsett caught three of three targets for 48 yards in Friday's preseason win over the Rams. He also returned one kickoff for 14 yards.

Impact Dorsett was involved in two of Houston's three touchdown drives. Late in the first half, he hauled in a 32-yard throw while staying in bounds to set up the Texans' first score. He also drew a pass interference penalty, advancing the ball 46 yards, on the game-winning drive. The speedy wideout has a reputation as a deep threat, but Dorsett ran routes on the outside (65 percent) and inside (35 percent) in 2021, per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle, which could be helpful to an offense that will be without projected slot receiver John Metchie (illness) this season.

Two catches Saturday Dorsett caught two of three targets for 18 yards in Saturday's 17-13 preseason win over the Saints.

Impact Dorsett played 21 snaps, all in the first half, and appears ticketed for a spot among the team's top five wide receivers. Houston's leading options at the position (Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins) did not play, which gave plenty of opportunities for those further down the depth chart. After those two, some order of Dorsett, Chris Conley and Chris Moore should follow. If the Texans carry six wideouts, players like Jalen Camp (four targets, two catches, 53 yards, one TD) or Connor Wedington (three targets, two catches, five yards) could make the final roster.

Ready for camp Dorsett has been running daily and will be ready when Houston begins training camp in July, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.

Impact Dorsett made the claim, one which has been heard by many a player rehabbing an injury during the offseason, that he's "in the best shape of his life." After one week on the Texans' practice squad last December, he was signed to the active roster. Dorsett appeared in three games -- each week, his production increased -- before the season ended prematurely by a foot injury. Houston's wide receiver room is led by Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins, which leaves Dorsett batting with Chris Conley outside the numbers and also in the slot with rookie John Metchie (knee) -- who is considered the frontrunner, if healthy.
