INJURIES

Signs with New Orleans The Saints signed Hines to the practice squad Thursday, John Sigler of SaintsWire reports.
Impact Hines has appeared in three games this season for the Chargers, where he totalled two rushing attempts for a loss of two yards. The veteran is also a useful kick returner, racking up 195 return yards through his three appearances. Hines will likely be elevated for Sunday's game against the Jets and serve as the No. 3 running back behind Evan Hull and Audric Estime.
DECEMBER 18 • ROTOWIRE
Set to join New Orleans The Saints are expected to sign Hines to the practice squad, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports Wednesday.
Impact Devin Neal (hamstring) has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets and Alvin Kamara (knee/ankle) has been sidelined for the Saints' last three games, leaving Evan Hull and Audric Estime as the only healthy running backs on New Orleans' active roster. Hines appeared in three regular-season games for the Chargers earlier in the season before being cut from the practice squad in late October, but the veteran running back is poised to get another chance with the Saints. Assuming he's signed to the Saints' practice squad, he could be elevated for Week 16 to provide New Orleans another option out of the backfield and a returner on special teams.
DECEMBER 18 • ROTOWIRE
Gets cut from practice squad The Chargers released Hines from their practice squad Tuesday.
Impact The Chargers had already used their maximum three elevations to the active roster on Hines this season, and rather than promoting him permanently, they decided to cut ties. In his three appearances this year, he recorded two carries for negative two yards.
OCTOBER 28 • ROTOWIRE
Reverts to practice squad Hines reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Hines and Jaret Patterson were both elevated to the Chargers' active roster for Thursday's game against the Vikings due to the absences of Hassan Haskins (hamstring) and Omarion Hampton (ankle). Hines saw just seven snaps (four on offense, three on special teams) while logging two carries for minus-2 yards, and he was the Chargers' clear RB3 behind Kimani Vidal (54 offensive snaps) and Patterson (15 offensive snaps). Hines has been elevated from the practice squad by the Chargers three times this season, which is the maximum amount. He would have to be signed to the active roster in order to play for the Chargers for the rest of the season.

OCTOBER 23 • CHARGERS.COM
Elevated to join shallow backfield The Chargers have elevated Hines from the practice squad to the active roster for Thursday's home game against the Vikings.
Impact Hines and Jaret Patterson have both been elevated to join a Los Angeles backfield that lacks any depth behind Kimani Vidal, with Hassan Haskins (hamstring) ruled out for Week 8, Omarion Hampton (ankle) still on IR, and Najee Harris (Achilles) out for the year. While Vidal has operated in a clear No. 1 backfield role since Hampton's injury, both Hines and Patterson could find themselves handling offensive touches if Thursday's contest turns into a run-heavy affair. Hines has been elevated for each of the Chargers' prior two games, and in both contests he contributed as a kick returner without logging a carry or target.
OCTOBER 23 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to practice squad Hines reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Impact Hines was back with the active roster for a second straight game, playing just one snap with the offense in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Colts. The running back was able to produce 98 yards on four kickoff returns while logging six snaps with the special-teams unit. With Hassan Haskins (hamstring) listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report, it's possible that Hines will be elevated for a third straight week ahead of Thursday night's matchup with Minnesota.
OCTOBER 21 • ROTOWIRE
Elevated for Week 7 The Chargers elevated Hines from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Impact Hines will be elevated to the Chargers' active roster for a second straight week and will be available to play against the Colts, the team that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Hines primarily served on special teams during the Chargers' Week 6 win over the Dolphins, when he turned three kickoff returns into 97 yards. However, the veteran running back could be deployed out of the backfield to spell Kimani Vidal if Hassan Haskins (chest) is not cleared to play Sunday.

Back with practice squad Hines reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Impact Hines was elevated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's 29-27 win over the Dolphins, playing just one offensive snap in the contest. Additionally, the running back compiled 97 yards on three kick returns, playing five snaps with the special-teams unit. With Omarion Hampton (ankle) on injured reserve, Hines will likely be elevated again prior to the team's Week 7 matchup with the Colts.

Elevated by Bolts for Week 6 The Chargers elevated Hines from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Hines joined the Chargers' practice squad Tuesday, and his addition gives the team much-needed depth at running back after Omarion Hampton (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. Hines will likely be active against the Dolphins on Sunday, and if he plays, it will mark his first regular-season action since 2022, when he appeared in 16 games between the Bills (nine) and the Colts (seven). Hines could serve in a return role on kickoffs and punts but might also see work out of the backfield behind Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal.

OCTOBER 8 • THESTATE.COM
Back with Los Angeles The Chargers signed Hines to the practice squad Tuesday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Hines spent training camp and the preseason with the Chargers, so he's a familiar face to help Los Angeles navigate the next month-plus without Omarion Hampton (ankle) out of the backfield. Hines will be a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad ahead of Week 6 against the Dolphins.
OCTOBER 7 • ROTOWIRE
Gets cut from practice squad The Chargers released Hines from their practice squad Tuesday.
Impact In a corresponding transaction, the Chargers signed linebacker Kana'i Mauga to their practice squad. Hines' last regular-season action came in 2022, when he turned 54 touches into 274 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns over 16 games with the Bills and the Colts.
SEPTEMBER 9 • ROTOWIRE
Goes to Bolts' practice squad The Chargers signed Hines to their practice squad Wednesday.
Impact Just a day after being waived by the Chargers, Hines is already back with the club on their practice squad. His last regular-season action came back in 2022, when he turned 54 touches into 274 scrimmage yards over 16 games with the Bills and the Colts.
AUGUST 27 • ROTOWIRE
Let go by Los Angeles Hines was released by the Chargers on Tuesday.
Impact Hines joined the Chargers in July after missing two seasons while recovering from a torn ACL. The running back played in all four of the team's preseason contests, turning 21 carries into 65 rushing yards, while also adding three catches for 13 yards. Additionally, Hines returned seven punts for 33 yards and nine kickoffs for 231 yards during the preseason. Considering his dynamic skill set, the running back will likely find another suitor ahead of the 2025 campaign.

AUGUST 26 • Associated Press
Joins the Bolts Hines signed with the Chargers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact The running back was looking for an opportunity after missing the last two seasons with a torn ACL suffered in a jet-ski accident, and now he'll get one in an LA backfield led by Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton. The depth chart is pretty open behind those two, and Hines has the added benefit of offering potential as a kick returner, seeing as he recorded 554 kickoff return yards and two touchdowns during the 2022 regular season. Hines has also caught at least 30 passes in all five of his pro campaigns.
JULY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Looking for shot in 2025 Miller-Hines (knee) believes his knee is finally ready for a return to NFL action, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Miller-Hines suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in a jet-ski accident following the 2022 campaign, which has forced him to miss each of the last two seasons. The running back played in 16 games between the Colts and Bills in 2022, turning 24 carries into 33 yards while catching 30 passes for 241 yards and a score. Most notably, he compiled 554 yards and two touchdowns as a punt returner. Miller-Hines will likely get a shot to join a team's special-teams unit again in 2025.
JULY 8 • ROTOWIRE
The harrowing accident that almost ended an NFL player's career Nyheim Hines was trying to help out his friends and ended up losing a year in the prime of his career.
APRIL 28 • NYTIMES.COM
Time in Cleveland ends Miller-Hines was released by the Browns on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston Reports.
Impact Miller-Hines was expected to be able to return from an ACL tear at some point during the 2024 campaign but that never came to fruition, and he finished the season on injured reserve. He'll likely find a new opportunity in 2025 if he can prove himself healthy.
FEBRUARY 18 • ROTOWIRE
Done for year Hines (knee) will remain sidelined for the rest of the 2024 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Hines had his 21-day practice window expire Wednesday, failing to be added to the active roster before it's conclusion. The running back is still working his way back from a torn ACL that he suffered in July of 2023 and he'll now shift his focus to being ready to go for next season.
OCTOBER 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Won't play vs. Ravens Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Hines (knee) is out for Week 8 versus Baltimore, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Hines participated fully in practice ahead of Week 7 but ultimately didn't suit up for that contest either, so it's possible injury alone can't fully explain why he isn't active yet. After the long-awaited return of starter Nick Chubb, the Browns now already have four running backs on their active roster, so even if Hines works his way back into the mix soon, he won't be on the fantasy radar for most formats.
