INJURIES
Sam Cosmi and Nick Cross setbacks put Commanders' new formula into focus The Commanders will just have to cope (again).

Will remain out for Week 4 Cross (illness) won't travel to London with the Commanders and has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Colts.
Impact It will be the second straight absence for Cross, and what was originally deemed an "internal injury" is now being called an "illness." It's not quite clear what he's dealing with, but the fifth-year safety's inability to suit up will leave a hole in Washington's secondary. Quan Martin logged a greater defensive snap share in Week 3 and will likely do so again Sunday in Cross's stead.

Ruled out versus Seattle Cross (internal injury) won't play in Sunday's game versus the Seahawks, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.
Impact It's unknown what kind of issue Cross is dealing with or if it will result in a stint on the injured reserve list. For now, he will at least be unavailable versus Seattle in Week 3. Without Cross on the field, Quan Martin could be in line for more snaps.

Monitored in Dallas for injury Cross (undisclosed) stayed in Dallas overnight Sunday for an internal injury, and his status for Week 3 against the Seahawks is up in the air, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C...
Impact Cross picked up the injury at some point during the Commanders' 37-20 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday, when he played every single defensive snap while logging three solo tackles. He was cleared to fly back to Virginia on Monday, and Wednesday's injury report should provide some clarity on his status for Week 3. Quan Martin would figure to be the next man up at safety if Cross were to miss time.
SEPTEMBER 21 • ROTOWIRE
Eight tackles in loss Cross logged eight tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Eagles.
Impact Cross played 98 percent of the Commanders' defensive snaps in the contest, being on the field for 54 plays. The starting strong safety did not play a single special-teams snap in the contest and was purely a defender.

Impact Cross is an extremely durable safety, playing in all 17 regular-season games for the Colts over the 2025 season and logging 94 percent or more of defensive snaps in 14 of those contests.
