Cut from Chiefs' practice squad Kansas City cut Carter from its practice squad Wednesday.

Impact Carter landed on the Chiefs' practice squad in September after missing the cut for the Falcons' initial 53-man roster for 2026, but now he's set to become a free agent again. Over seven games with Atlanta in 2025, he took 9 carries for 60 yards, but he also lost a fumble.

Catches on with Kansas City's practice squad The Chiefs signed Carter to the practice squad Tuesday.

Impact Carter was in the mix for the Falcons' RB3 role, but Atlanta ended up keeping only two healthy running backs -- Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson -- on the 53-man roster, with Trey Sermon (undisclosed) on season-ending injured reserve. Carter will get a new opportunity with the Chiefs and would be a candidate for elevation to the team's active roster if one of Kenneth Walker (ankle), Emmett Johnson or Brashard Smith were to miss time.Carter appeared in seven regular-season games for the Falcons last year, logging nine carries for 60 yards while also contributing on special teams.

In mix for No. 3 gig Carter will compete with Tyler Goodson and Cash Jones for the Falcons' No. 3 running back spot during training camp, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports.

Impact Carter handled a depth role last season, rushing nine times for 60 yards across seven regular-season appearances while also playing 49 snaps on special teams. Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. are locked into the top two backfield roles, so Carter's path to the roster depends on how much special-teams value he's able to demonstrate, as well as holding off Goodson and Jones. Even if he wins the No. 3 job, Carter won't have a path to fantasy relevance as long as Atlanta's top two running backs remain on the field.

Minimal offensive work in 2025 Carter rushed nine times for 60 yards across seven regular-season games in 2025.

Impact Carter, an undrafted rookie from Michigan State, was active for just seven games this season, as he was buried behind Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier in the Falcons' backfield. Seven of Carter's nine carries on the season came in the Week 3 loss to the Panthers, a game in which Atlanta was shutout. With Allgeier set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Carter could have the opportunity to compete for the Falcons' No. 2 running back role ahead of the 2026 season.

Healthy scratch Week 14 Carter (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

Impact Carter will be a healthy inactive for the fourth time in the Hawks' last six games, and Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier will operate as the Falcons' two active running backs for Sunday's road tilt. Carter's next opportunity to play is Thursday against the Buccaneers, though he's unlikely to play in that game unless Robinson or Allgeier were to be sidelined or if the Falcons require additional help on special teams.

Healthy scratch Week 9 Carter (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Carter played two snaps on offense during the Falcons' Week 8 loss against the Dolphins and turned two carries into 14 yards. However, the undrafted rookie will be a healthy scratch for Sunday's contest in New England as the Falcons go with Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier as their two active running backs.

Handles two carries against Miami Carter rushed twice for 14 yards in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Dolphins.

Impact Carter played just two of the Falcons' 50 offensive snaps Sunday, operating as Atlanta's No. 3 running back behind both Bijan Robinson (30) and Tyler Allgeier (20). In three appearances this season, the rookie running back has played a total of 10 offensive snaps and recorded just nine carries for 60 yards. Barring an injury to Robinson or Allgeier, Carter remains far off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 9 matchup against the Patriots.

Full practice Thursday Carter (hamstring) was a full participant at practice Thursday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official website reports.

Impact Carter was forced to miss the team's Week 4 win over the Commanders due to a hamstring injury, but he now appears to be all set for Week 6. The running back will likely be back in his role as the No. 3 option behind Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier on Monday Night Football against Buffalo.

Ruled out for Week 4 Carter (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Commanders, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Impact Carter carried the ball seven times for 46 yards in garbage time during last Sunday's 30-0 loss to the Panthers. With Carter out for Week 4, the Falcons could elevate Carlos Washington from the practice squad to serve as the RB3 behind Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier.

Gets garbage-time action Carter rushed seven times for 46 yards during Sunday's 30-0 loss to the Panthers. He also lost a fumble.

Impact The undrafted rookie was a healthy scratch for Week 1, but he's been active the past two games. He saw only one offensive snap during his NFL debut in Minnesota on Monday Night Football, but he got more playing time during Sunday's blowout loss. Carter didn't see any offensive snaps until the Falcons' final drive, but he got the ball on each play of the drive and looked good until he fumbled on his final touch. As long as Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier are healthy, there won't be many meaningful snaps for Carter every week.

Makes little impact Friday Carter carried the ball four times for 10 yards in Friday's 31-13 preseason loss to the Cowboys.

Impact The rookie UDFA out of Michigan State was the second running back into the game for Atlanta after Jashaun Corbin, getting his first touch on the team's second possession, but Carter did little with his opportunities and was out-shone by both Corbin and Elijah Dotson in the exhibition finale. Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier are locked into the top two spots on the RB depth chart, but the No. 3 role could be wide open with Carlos Washington (hamstring) having missed the entire preseason. Carter may have missed his chance Friday to pull away from the pack.
