INJURIES
Questionable for Week 6 Williams (knee) is questionable for Monday night's game against the Commanders.
Impact Williams made his season debut last Sunday against the Seahawks, recording a pair of tackles (one solo) on 36.5 percent of the defensive snaps. Working his way back to full strength off last season's torn ACL, Williams' role should continue to slowly grow over the next several weeks.

4 Takeaways From The 49ers' Thrilling Win Over The Seahawks
Is Mykel Williams making his season debut? Latest 49ers injury news and matchups 49ers edge rusher Mykel Williams could return on Sunday against the Seahawks in a divisional game with numerous storylines.

In line to make 2026 debut Sunday The 49ers activated Williams (knee) from the reserve/PUP list Saturday, and he no longer carries an injury designation into Sunday's NFC West tilt against the Seahawks.
Impact Williams is set to play in his first game since he tore his ACL in early November of 2025. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 2025 first-rounder operate under a snap count against Seattle. Nevertheless, the return of Williams is a welcome one for the 49ers, especially with Nick Bosa set to miss a third consecutive game due to a calf injury.

Questionable with ACL injury Williams (knee) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Impact The 49ers opened Williams' 21-day practice window Wednesday. The defensive end was limited to start the week before upgrading to a full participant in Friday's practice. With a week of practice under his belt, there is a chance the team could move Williams back to the 53-man roster from the reserve/PUP list in time for Sunday's contest.

Opens practice window The 49ers opened Williams' (knee) 21-day practice window Wednesday to return from the reserve/PUP list, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Williams spent his first practice back with the 49ers as a limited participant. The team has until Oct. 21. to add the linebacker to the 53-man roster, or he will remain on the reserve/PUP list for the remainder of the 2026 season. Williams is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in November 2025 but could suit up for game day as soon as Week 5.

Moved to reserve/PUP list Williams (knee) was moved to the reserve/PUP list by the 49ers on Sunday.
Impact Williams is still recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in November 2025, and he was unable to practice or play during the preseason. The 22-year-old will now be forced to miss at least four contests to open the regular season, and the earliest he'll be able to return to action is Week 5 against the Seahawks on Oct. 11.

Unlikely to be ready for Week 1 Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that Williams (knee) is considered a "long shot" to play in Week 1 against the Rams, Dylan Grausz of NBC Sports reports.
Impact Despite the relatively discouraging update, Shanahan did not completely rule out the possibility of Williams being back up to full speed by the start of the regular season. Like Williams, fellow edge rusher Nick Bosa is also recovering from an ACL tear suffered last year, and the 49ers have already seen multiple other injuries on the front seven, so there's a strong possibility they will have to call on some unlikely players to begin the new campaign.
