Makai Lemon - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Uninspiring performance in loss Lemon caught three of six targets for 27 yards during Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Rams.

Impact Lemon had a chance to step into a more prominent role on offense in the absence of DeVonta Smith (hamstring), but he didn't really see an increase in production. The wide receiver's six targets were a new career high, but he has now registered three or fewer catches in all four games this season while never exceeding 30 receiving yards. Quarterback Jalen Hurts recorded only 93 total passing yards Sunday, so he'll have to better for Lemon to see an increase in production Week 5 versus Jacksonville.

Impact The rookie first-rounder has seen his receiving yards steadily increase over the first three games of the regular season, and with Smith sidelined for at least one week, Lemon will have the opportunity to establish himself as a go-to target in the passing game for Jalen Hurts. The Rams will be without starting outside cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder), so whomever Los Angeles rolls out as a replacement could be a target that Lemon and the Eagles offense exploits.

Notches three receptions in loss Lemon recorded three receptions for 29 yards on four targets in Monday's 27-7 loss to the Bears.

Impact After taking the field for north of 60 percent of the snaps in both of the Eagles' first two contests, Lemon wasn't a major beneficiary of the absence of tight end Dallas Goedert (knee). Even though the Eagles leaned more heavily on three-wide formations, Lemon saw only a slight uptick in playing time Monday, logging 35 of 50 snaps (70 percent). The rookie first-round pick appears to be little more than a tertiary option in the passing game at this stage of his career, as he's thus far been held to seven catches for 38 yards on nine targets through his first three NFL games.

Logs 14-yard catch in Week 2 win Lemon caught his lone target for 14 yards while turning one carry into minus-five yards during the Eagles' 24-20 win over the Titans on Sunday.

Impact Lemon recorded minus-five receiving yards on three catches during his NFL debut against the Commanders in Week 1. He was at least able to stay in the positive against Tennessee with a 14-yard catch on the last play of the third quarter, which moved the chains on third-and-8 and led to a two-yard touchdown run by Tank Bigsby four plays later. Lemon saw his workload in training camp severely limited due to a hamstring injury, so it may take a few weeks for the rookie first-rounder to ramp up his production. That said, with Dallas Goedert set to miss multiple weeks due to a sprained MCL, Lemon could operate in an elevated role in the passing game, starting with the Eagles' Week 3 road tilt against the Bears on Monday, Sept. 28.

Abnormal stat line in regular-season debut Lemon caught three of four targets for minus-five yards in Sunday's 24-22 win over the Commanders.

Impact Lemon reeled in a three-yard catch on the team's first possession of the game before later adding a pair of receptions that combined to lose eight yards. The Eagles are operating under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion this season, and they'll look to find more productive ways to get the wide receiver involved in Week 2 against the Titans.

Listed as starting receiver, punt returner The Eagles list Lemon as a starting receiver and their top punt returner on their unofficial depth chart released Tuesday, Andrew DiCecco of InsideTheBirds.com reports.

Impact Lemon joins DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks as the top three receivers on the Eagles' depth chart, though Wicks may be prioritized ahead of the rookie first-round pick in two-wide sets, at least to begin the season. Wicks turned in a strong training camp for the Eagles, while Lemon spent considerable time on the sideline while tending to a hamstring injury. Lemon has since moved past that injury, but he'll likely need to impress both in practices and the snaps he receives early in the season before pushing past Wicks as the Eagles' No. 2 receiver.
