GAME LOG

INJURIES

Lands back on practice squad Larison reverted to New England's practice squad Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Larison was elevated for Wednesday's season-opening loss to Seattle and logged three offensive snaps, catching both of his targets for nine yards. The 24-year-old also returned two kickoffs for 49 yards. Larison's opportunity came as a result of TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) missing Wednesday's contest, and Henderson's status for Week 2 will likely factor into Larison's likelihood of being elevated for that game. Even if Larison gets elevated again, though, he'll likely continue to work behind Rhamondre Stevenson (60 snaps Wednesday) and Corey Kiner (eight).

Moves up from practice squad for opener The Patriots elevated Larison from the practice squad ahead of Wednesday's game against the Seahawks.
Impact With TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) sidelined for the season opener, Larison will move up from the practice squad to join Corey Kiner as a reserve option in the backfield behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Though Larison flashed some playmaking ability as a receiver during the preseason, he may end up making most of his contributions on special teams Wednesday, as Stevenson is expected to shoulder a heavy workload as a rusher and on passing downs.

Patriots Elevate Two Players from the Practice Squad The Patriots announced today that they have elevated RB Lan Larison and P Mitch Wishnowsky to the active roster from the practice squad.

Joins up with New England's practice squad The Patriots signed Larison to the practice squad Monday.
Impact The Patriots waived Larison during Sunday's cutdown day. The running back cleared waivers and will once again rejoin the team that took a chance on him as an undrafted free agent out of UC Davis in 2025. Larison spent the entirety of the 2025 season on the Patriots' IR with a foot issue. The 24-year-old's first shot at an NFL regular-season game could come in 2026 if he is chosen to be elevated or signed to the active roster at any point.

Let go by New England The Patriots waived Larison on Sunday.
Impact Larison appeared in all three of the Patriots' preseason games, turning 18 carries into 39 yards and a touchdown while adding nine catches (on 14 targets) for 79 yards. He also contributed on special teams both as a gunner and returner on kickoffs, but that versatility was not enough for him to crack the Patriots' 53-man roster for the regular season. Larison could garner interest on the waiver wire from teams looking to add backfield depth to the roster, but a return to New England as a member of the practice squad is possible if he goes unclaimed.

Quiet in preseason finale Larison (undisclosed) rushed twice for five yards and didn't catch either of his two targets in Thursday's 37-13 preseason loss to the Browns.
Impact Larison suited up for the preseason finale after missing practice time earlier in the week due to an undisclosed injury. The 24-year-old running back is competing for a depth role in New England's backfield. Larison didn't help his chances of making the team with Thursday's quiet performance, but he showcased some promising receiving capabilities with a six-catch performance in the preseason opener against the Colts. Jam Miller, Hassan Haskins and JaMycal Hasty are also in contention for the third spot on New England's running back depth chart.

Not practicing Monday Larison (undisclosed) will not practice Monday, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site
Impact Larison is among several Patriots who are banged up and not practicing Monday, according to coach Mike Vrabel. The running back out of UC Davis is battling for a roster spot and performed well in the Patriots' most recent preseason game, particularly as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. New England's preseason finale is set for Thursday, so the hope is Larison will be available to make one more impression on the staff before roster cutdowns.

Makes impact as receiver Thursday Larison gained just one yard on seven carries in Thursday's 13-13 preseason tie with the Colts, but he caught six of eight targets for 38 yards.
Impact The undrafted running back out of UC Davis couldn't get anything going on the ground, but Larison's pass-catching chops stood out -- no other Patriot had more than three receptions on the night. His opportunities came with both TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson getting the night off, but the performance may have boosted Larison's chances of beginning the season in the RB3 role. He has yet to make his NFL debut after spending his rookie season in 2025 on the IR due to foot surgery.

Lead candidate for No. 3 role Larison has entered the competition for the No. 3 running back role in the Patriots' offense, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The Patriots' split-back system comprises Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, with Terrell Jennings (undisclosed) being the leader for the primary depth role before being placed on injured reserve Thursday. Jennings' misfortune gives Larison a new chance at the 53-man roster, with the running back already reportedly leading the second-team offense while Jennings was getting select reps with the first-team. Larison's primary competition for the role will be Jam Miller, Hassan Haskins and JaMycal Hasty.
AUGUST 13 • ROTOWIRE
Works with second-team Larison led the second-team offense Wednesday, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
Impact It seems that Terrell Jennings has the early lead for the No. 3 running back position, but Larison might be his closest competition. While Jennings took snaps with the first-team offense Wednesday, Larison led the second. There could be a situation in the future where Larison earns the right to test the first-team waters behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.

In camp competition vs. rookies Larison is battling rookies Jam Miller and Myles Montgomery for the third spot on the Patriots' running back depth chart, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
Impact Larison looks like the early favorite for the third spot behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, but Miller and Montgomery will have opportunities to strengthen their cases for roster spots throughout training camp and the preseason. Lazar notes that Larison, Miller and Montgomery have all gotten opportunities on kickoff returns early in training camp. Special-teams ability could be the deciding factor for which running back earns a roster spot since Stevenson and Henderson are expected to monopolize opportunities on offense if healthy.
JULY 31 • ROTOWIRE
Making push for No. 3 RB slot Larison appears to the early leader to serve as the Patriots' No. 3 running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports.
Impact Also in the mix for slotting behind the top duo are Terrell Jennings (undisclosed), Jam Miller and Myles Montgomery, but after spending the entire 2025 campaign on IR due to a foot injury, Larison is making a push to claim a complementary backfield role ahead of Week 1. In any case, the back who emerges as New England's No. 3 option has modest fantasy upside as long as Stevenson and Henderson are healthy.
JULY 27 • ROTOWIRE
Vying for RB3 spot in New England Larison and Terrell Jennings are set to battle for the third spot on the Patriots' running back depth chart in training camp, Christopher Price of the Boston Globe reports.
Impact Larison signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of UC Davis prior to the 2025 season but injured his foot during the preseason and spent the entire campaign on IR. Now that he's healthy, Larison will try to earn a roster spot in a depth role behind TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson. Jam Miller and Myles Montgomery are also vying for roles in New England's running back room.
JULY 17 • ROTOWIRE
Participating in OTAs Larison (foot) is participating in OTAs, Sophie Weller of Patriots Wire reports.
Impact The running back suffered a season-ending foot injury during an August preseason game last year, but he appears to be healthy now. In fact, Larison seems to be leading the competition for the third running back spot behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, per Weller. Jam Miller, Myles Montgomery and Terrell Jennings are also part of that competition.

Placed on injured reserve The Patriots placed Larison (leg) on injured reserve Sunday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Impact Larison suffered the injury during his two-yard touchdown run at the 3:25 mark in the fourth quarter of Friday's preseason win over the Commanders. He was seen in a walking boot after the game, and after undergoing further tests, the undrafted rookie out of UC Davis will miss the entire 2025 season. The Patriots signed running back Deneric Prince to the roster in a corresponding move.
