Lands on COVID-19 list Washington placed Shurmur (undisclosed) on the practice squad COVID-19 list Thursday.

Impact It's not yet clear whether Shurmur has tested positive for COVID-19, but he'll be forced to spend some time away from the team. A timetable for his return hasn't been established.

Reverts back to practice squad Shurmur reverted to Washington's practice squad Wednesday.

Impact Shurmur was elevated for Week 15, as Washington's top two quarterback options were sidelined in COVID-19 protocols. Expect Shurmur to stay on Washington's practice squad for the remainder of the season barring any injuries to Taylor Heinicke or Kyle Allen.

Backing up Garrett Gilbert Washington elevated Shurmur from its practice squad ahead of Tuesday's game against the Eagles.

Impact Shurmur has yet to take his first NFL regular-season snaps, but he'll at least dress as the Football Team's backup quarterback for the Week 15 contest after neither Taylor Heinicke (illness) nor Kyle Allen (illness) were cleared to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday. Though Shurmur has been in the Washington organization since September, the Football Team will turn to the more experienced Garrett Gilbert to make the spot start in place of Heinicke, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. Gilbert was just signed off the Patriots' practice squad Friday, so if he struggles early on against the Eagles, Washington could be compelled to give him the quick hook in favor of Shurmur.

Impact Shurmur has been on Washington's practice squad throughout the year, while Gilbert was with the Patriots' practice squad before signing with Washington on Friday. It sounds like Gilbert's NFL experience may win out over Shurmur's familiarity with the playbook, and there's also perhaps some chance of either Heinicke or Allen being cleared by Tuesday. Allen was placed on the COVID list Wednesday, with Heinicke then joining him two days later.
