Shines in preseason win Hinton (knee) hauled in three of four targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' 17-7 preseason win over the Cowboys on Saturday night.

Impact Hinton tied for second on the team in receptions and made his biggest impact by hauling in a 24-yard touchdown pass off the arm of Josh Johnson just past the midway point of the second quarter. The 25-year-old presumably has an increased chance of a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver role in the wake of Tim Patrick's (knee) season-ending injury, and Hinton will continue to try and make a case for such in next Saturday night's road preseason matchup against the Bills.

Impact The severity of what Hinton is dealing with is unclear, but it sounds like the Broncos are just playing things safe. Tim Patrick, who was third on the team in targets in 2021, tore his ACL during practice Tuesday, which could mean Hinton is in line for an expanded role heading into his third year as a pro.

Impact Despite appearing in all but one game this season, Hinton had an underwhelming 2021 campaign. It was difficult for the 24-year-old wideout to get much going playing on just 25 percent of Denver's offensive snaps. Hinton is behind Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick on the depth chart, and all three project to be a member of the Broncos in 2022. Jeudy is still on his rookie contract, while Sutton and Patrick signed multi-year extensions during the season. Hinton is entering the final year of his current contract. The 6-foot, 195-pounder could find it difficult to see much playing time again in 2022, barring any injuries to the Broncos' top three receivers.

Hinton was in on 60 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps and was tied with Courtland Sutton for the second-most targets of any Denver pass catcher. Hinton and Diontae Spencer were left as the only fully healthy wideouts on the 53-man roster Friday before Travis Fulgham and Seth Williams were elevated from the practice squad as COVID-19 replacements for Jeudy and Patrick. With that in mind, Hinton and Spencer are presumably first in line to fill the vacated snaps at receiver, though neither has a resume at the NFL level that makes either a must-start fantasy option. Backup quarterback Drew Lock will also be directing the offense for a second straight game while Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) is out, which could result in the low-tempo Denver offense becoming even more run-heavy.
