Impact Hunt is scheduled to play out 2020 under a restricted free agent tender for $3.26 million. His desire to stay in Cleveland doesn't necessarily mean he'll sign an extension this summer, and it's possible he changes his mind if he spends the upcoming season behind Nick Chubb in the backfield. Former Browns GM John Dorsey was happy to scoop up Hunt at a discount after the running back was investigated for assault, but new GM Andrew Berry may view things differently, especially after Hunt was found with a small amount of marijuana and an unsealed bottle of alcohol during a traffic stop in January. While the incident won't cost him his spot on the team, it could dissuade the Browns from discussing a contract extension. In other news, Hunt has done some virtual offseason work with the Browns' wide receivers, potentially preparing to get a bit of slot work in Kevin Stefanski's offense.

Impact That practice follows in line with Hunt's role from 2019, when he finished third on the Browns with 37 catches despite missing the first eight games due to a suspension. Cleveland tried a number of wideouts as the No. 3 wide receiver and none could hold the job, which remains wide open heading into 2020. The Browns feel Hunt can do more than just serve as backup to Nick Chubb, so expect him to be active in the passing game. "I've been very impressed with [Hunt] as a receiver," new Browns wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Chad O'Shea said Wednesday. "I've been impressed with him as a receiver as a running back. I've been fortunate to be around a lot at that spot, and I know that it brings great value to that position when you can be a threat in the pass game." Hunt will compete with Rashard Higgins, rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones, KhaDarel Hodge and Damion Ratley.
