Productive in Week 18
Mason carried the ball 14 times for 94 yards in Sunday's 16-3 win over the Packers.
Impact
With Aaron Jones (hip) ruled out for the Vikings' regular-season finale, Mason led the backfield with his best yardage total since Week 3. Fullback C.J. Ham vultured a one-yard TD run in the second quarter, however. Mason finishes his first season in Minnesota with 758 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 159 carries, and with both Jones and Mason on affordable contracts in 2026, the duo will likely remain in some form of timeshare next season.

Set for Week 18 start
Mason is positioned to start Sunday's season finale against the Packers with Aaron Jones (hip) ruled out for Week 18, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact
Mason handled double-digit carries in all four of the games Jones previously missed to injury between Week 3 and Week 7, and he could face a favorable matchup Sunday versus a Green Bay squad that Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports will rest certain key starters, including on defense. Across 15 regular-season appearances so far, Mason has rushed 145 times for 664 yards (4.6 YPC) and three touchdowns. He's also secured 14 of 16 targets for 51 receiving yards. Ty Chandler and Zavier Scott will handle depth roles behind Mason on Sunday.

Full practice Thursday
Mason (ankle) practiced fully Thursday.
Impact
Mason was knocked out on the first possession of a Week 16 win at the Giants due to an ankle injury that sidelined him last Thursday against the Lions, He's now progressed from limited Wednesday to all activity one day later, while fellow RB Aaron Jones (hip) has yet to practice this week. If Jones is inhibited or sidelined Sunday versus the Packers, Mason could be in line for a leading role Week 18.

Limited in return to practice
Mason (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday.
Impact
This marks Mason's first notable on-field work since he suffered an ankle injury early Week 16 at the Giants. Aaron Jones has paced the Vikings backfield for most of the last two contests, but he wasn't able to practice Wednesday due to a new hip issue. The activity levels of both players bears watching as the week goes on to see who among them may be available Sunday against the Packers.

Won't play Christmas Day
Mason (ankle) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Lions.
Impact
Mason was unable to practice all week due to an ankle injury he sustained during the Vikings' 16-13 win over the Giants on Sunday. That leaves Aaron Jones as Minnesota's clear RB1 for Christmas Day, and Zavier Scott and Ty Chandler will step into larger, rotational roles in the backfield in Mason's absence. Week 18 against the Packers on Sunday, Jan. 4 is Mason's last opportunity to play this season, given that the Vikings have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Tracking toward Week 17 absence
Mason (ankle) was a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice.
Impact
With the Vikings estimating Mason as a non-participant on both of their first two Week 17 injury reports, the 26-year-old hasn't been ruled out from playing Thursday against the Lions, but he's being viewed as a "longshot" to suit up, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. Assuming Mason is formally ruled out for the Week 17 game following the release of Wednesday's injury report, Aaron Jones would be in line to lead the Minnesota backfield Thursday, provided he can move past the ankle injury that rendered him a limited participant in Tuesday's walk-through.

Listed as DNP on Monday
Mason (ankle) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report.
Impact
Both Mason and Aaron Jones left the Vikings' first possession of Sunday's win at the Giants due to ankle injuries, and while Jones was able to return and finish out the contest, Mason was ruled out not long after his initial exit. Minnesota didn't hold practice Monday ahead of Thursday's game against the Lions, but Mason appears in danger of logging his first absence of the season.

Won't return Sunday
Mason (ankle) won't return to Sunday's game against the Giants.

With Mason done for the day, Aaron Jones -- who returned to the contest after hurting his ankle -- and Zavier Scott are available to handle Minnesota's Week 16 backfield duties. Mason will thus target a possible return to action Thursday against the Lions.

Injures ankle Sunday
Mason suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's game at the Giants.
Impact
Both Mason and fellow RB Aaron Jones injured their ankles in the first quarter of Week 16 action, but while Mason was spotted getting on a cart, per Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Jones was jogging on the sideline, according to Lewis. Zavier Scott took over the Vikings backfield to begin their second possession of the contest.

Does little with 10 carries
Mason rushed 10 times for 29 yards during Sunday night's 34-26 win over the Cowboys.
Impact
Mason played 36 percent of offensive snaps Week 15, again working behind Aaron Jones (58 percent), who was also quiet versus Dallas with just 12 carries for 34 yards. While Mason was not targeted a single time, however, Jones continues to contribute as a pass-catcher, securing all three of his targets for 31 yards. Mason warrants less fantasy consideration than Jones, and neither are necessarily in the mix as more than flex options, but both runners will face a plus matchup and touchdown opportunity on the road against the Giants in Week 16.
