Resurfaces in Chicago

Joins Dallas
Johnson signed a contract with the Cowboys on Monday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Johnson will join the Cowboys' reserves/future list for the 2021 season after spending time on the practice squad. The receiver last looked hopeful during the 2019 preseason before injuring his shoulder. Johnson will hopefully play a depth wideout role during his 2021-season debut.

Brought onto practice squad
The Cowboys signed Johnson to the practice squad Sunday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Johnson spent the entire 2019 season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury after a solid rookie training camp, but he was unable to secure a spot on the final roster this season. He's one of two wide receivers -- Aaron Parker being the other -- on Dallas' practice squad to begin the year.

Waived Saturday
Johnson was waived by the Cowboys on Saturday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning Newsreports.
Impact
Johnson missed time during training camp after landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but it never made sense from a roster construction standpoint to see him make the Cowboys 53-man roster. Expect the undrafted rookie to once again participate on the team's practice squad.

Looking to build on rookie flashes
Johnson (shoulder) is competing for a depth spot on the 53-man roster, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Impact
Johnson enjoyed an impressive training camp in Dallas last season after going undrafted out of Toledo, but an ill-timed preseason shoulder injury ended his rookie campaign prematurely. If the 6-foot, 192-pound sophomore wideout is again able to capitalize on his offseason opportunities, he could make another case to secure a position on the 53-man roster. As a speedster who makes up for unremarkable athleticism with solid route running, showing well on special teams would further assist Johnson's chances of making the team.
