Jonnu Smith - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Hauls in two passes in Week 3 loss Smith caught two passes on three targets for 16 yards during Thursday's 35-14 loss to Atlanta.

Impact Smith was able to contribute to the Packers' passing attack Thursday after failing to log a target in Week 2 against the Jets .His 22 snaps on offense were second-most among Green Bay tight ends behind Tucker Kraft (50) and ahead of both Mark Redman (eight) and Josh Whyle (one). Smith will take a 4-66-0 receiving line (on six targets) into the Packers' Week 4 road tilt against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 4.

No targets in overtime win Smith played 13 of the Packers' 59 snaps during Sunday's 20-17 overtime win against the Jets.

Impact Smith was targeted three times in Green Bay's loss in Week 1, but he saw fewer snaps (13) at tight end in Week 2 than recent trade acquisition Mark Redman (20). Smith is still probably more likely to draw a target on any given snap than the in-line specialist Redman, but his snap share will be worth watching in Week 3 versus the Falcons.

Logs long catch in loss Smith caught two of three targets for 50 yards in Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Vikings.

Impact Jordan Love wasn't shy about going to his tight ends, as Smith and Tucker Kraft combined for five catches and 115 yards. The bulk of Smith's production came on a 43-yard reception midway through the third quarter on which he was left wide open. Kraft is the clear No. 1 tight end in Green Bay, but Smith logged 32 of 68 offensive snaps Sunday and should chip in as a pass catcher most weeks. With that said, he's unlikely to be a trustworthy fantasy asset unless Kraft is sidelined at some point.

Will sign with Packers Smith is signing a one-year contract with the Packers, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.

Impact Smith has been without a team since being released by the Steelers in March, but he has found a new home in Green Bay. Tucker Kraft (knee) is the established top tight end for the Packers, but the team lacks depth behind him -- particularly with Luke Musgrave (neck) on the Active/PUP list -- and Smith immediately becomes the second most intriguing tight end on the roster for fantasy purposes.

Released by Pittsburgh The Steelers released Smith on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact Following a career year with the Dolphins in 2024 in which he caught 88 of 111 targets for 884 yards and eight touchdowns, Smith was reunited with OC Arthur Smith in Pittsburgh via trade last offseason. Despite the familiarity, Smith found himself in a three- and four-way committee at tight end with the Steelers and never seemed to gel with Aaron Rodgers. Across 17 regular-season games, Smith caught just 38 of 54 targets for 222 yards and two scores. He'll certainly be looking for a team with a less crowded depth chart. The move saves Pittsburgh $7 million against the salary cap.

Production tanks in Pittsburgh Smith secured 38 of 54 targets for 222 yards and two touchdowns across 17 regular-season games with the Steelers in 2025.

Impact Smith posted a career-best 88-884-8 line on 111 targets with the Dolphins in 2024, but offseason contract disputes led to his being traded to Pittsburgh, where his receiving production plummeted in a run-first offense designed by Arthur Smith (now at Ohio State). It's hard to imagine a worse scenario for the 30-year-old tight end to have found himself in. The arrival of new head coach Mike McCarthy could provide a new spark on offense, but even if things change for the better, Smith may not have a path to re-emerging as a consistent fantasy contributor due to the involvement of fellow tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington (forearm). Smith has one more year under contract.
