John Parker Romo on Vikings' 12-7 win vs. Jaguars: 'Great time to be a Viking'

Filling in for injured Reichard The Vikings will sign Romo on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Impact A third-year pro out of Virginia Tech, Romo will get the chance to make his NFL regular-season debut beginning with this Sunday's game against the Jaguars as a replacement at kicker for Will Reichard (quadricep), who is headed for injured reserve. Romo had previously been with the Vikings during their offseason program, but he was cut in late July once Minnesota had firmly committed to Reichard as its kicker. Though he has yet to appear at the NFL level, Romo has kicked professionally in the XFL for the San Antonio Brahmas back in 2023, when he converted 17 of 19 field-goal attempts, including a long of 57 yards.

Dropped by Minnesota The Vikings waived Romo on Monday.

Impact It was an uphill battle for Romo to make Minnesota's 53-man roster, as he was competing with Will Reichard, the NCAA's all-time leader in points, for the team's place kicker duties. Romo has yet to kick in an NFL game, and he'll now look elsewhere for the opportunity to do so.

Let go by Saints Romo was waived by the Saints on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Impact Romo signed with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent in mid-May, but he was let go last Monday. He rejoined the team Friday but will now part ways with the club once again as he attempts to seek out another opportunity at the NFL level.

Back with Saints New Orleans re-signed Romo on Friday, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Impact The Saints had waived Romo just five days prior to signing him again. It's unlikely he'll push Wil Lutz for the role of starting placekicker, but Romo could perhaps earn a spot on the practice squad if he boots the ball well during practice.

Impact Romo signed with New Orleans in March as an undrafted free out of Virginia Tech. The rookie will now pass through waivers with the hopes of landing with a new team in need of kicking competition this preseason.

Lands deal with New Orleans The Saints signed Romo as an undrafted free agent Friday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Impact Romo made 18 of 22 field-goal attempts -- including seven of nine from beyond 40 yards -- and all 34 of his extra-point attempts during his final campaign at Virginia Tech. The UDFA kicker likely will serve as a backup plan to Wil Lutz, who is recovering from core-muscle surgery but still expected to be ready for the start of the 2022 season.
