Impact The 49ers continue to be dealt blow after blow each week in terms of key players going down to injury, and this week it struck yet another 100-yard rusher in Wilson. It sounds like the fill-in starter will miss multiple weeks, opening the door for McKinnon -- who disappointed in what looked to be his game to shine -- moving forward. Head coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that he was trying to give McKinnon some rest after being used heavily in recent weeks and also dealing with a rib injury, but it sounds like he's ready to turn back to the veteran as a starter moving forward. Undrafted rookie JaMycal Hasty shined in garbage time Sunday (nine carries for 57 yards), and also figures to be in the mix until Raheem Mostert (ankle) returns from injured reserve. Based on Shanahan's comments, we have to assume McKinnon will officially be named the starter for a key division matchup against the Seahawks on Sunday, with Hasty also sharing the workload.

Poised for start in Foxborough McKinnon is expected to make his third start of the season Sunday against the Patriots, Can Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact McKinnon played 62 and 92 percent of snaps in his previous two starts, averaging 14 carries, six targets, 87 total yards and one touchdown per game. However, he managed only 3.3 yards per carry, and the 49ers mostly leaned on JaMycal Hasty after top back Raheem Mostert (ankle) suffered another injury during last week's 24-16 win over the Rams. There's no doubt McKinnon offers upside, but it isn't clear he'll have the same every-down role that made him so valuable the first time Mostert missed games. There's also some chance Jeff Wilson (calf) is available, considering he's listed as questionable after missing last week's contest.

Impact McKinnon struggled to get anything going for the second week in a row since Raheem Mostert (ankle) returned from injury to reclaim his starting role. The latter suffered yet another injury and had to sit out the second half. It didn't look to be too serious, but there's been no confirmation on whether Mostert will have to miss any time. McKinnon clearly would benefit from becoming the lead back again, as he averaged 13.6 combined touches and 83.6 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown per game over the three contests Mostert missed. If Mostert's removal Sunday proves to be precautionary, then McKinnon's fantasy value will remain low, especially with rookie JaMycal Hasty (21 percent of snaps) emerging as another potential mouth to feed.

Impact Raheem Mostert (knee) returned to reclaim his starting job, leaving scraps for McKinnon and the rest of the running back corps in an ugly loss. Jeff Wilson ended up with more carries (four) while playing nearly the same amount of snaps as McKinnon (25 percent), so it appears the latter will serve as the team's third-down back when Mostert is healthy. The 49ers could be playing from behind during a rough stretch of games ahead, so McKinnon could produce in the passing game, but the return of Mostert puts an end to Jet's run of standard-league fantasy value.
