INJURIES

Suiting up Monday McNichols (ankle) is active for Monday's game against the Bills.
Impact McNichols was considered questionable due to the ankle injury but is ready to play on Monday Night Football. The 25-year-old has seven carries for 38 yards and 17 receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown this season, and he should have a minor role in the Titans backfield with Derrick Henry healthy.

Listed as questionable McNichols (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Bills, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Impact McNichols registered back-to-back DNPs ahead of Monday's prime-time matchup, but the questionable designation does at least afford him the chance to play. More information regarding his status and the possible return of Darrynton Evans (knee) should arrive well before the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff Monday.

Limited by ankle injury McNichols was a limited participant in Thursday's practice due to an ankle injury, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Since McNichols is at least on the practice field in some capacity to begin the week, his ankle injury more than likely won't prevent him from playing Monday against the Bills. Instead, the greater threat to McNichols' outlook both this week and beyond is the potential return of Darrynton Evans (knee), who resumed practicing Oct. 6 and could be reinstated from injured reserve Monday. Whenever he's deemed ready to go, Evans could unseat McNichols as the top change-of-pace option behind Derrick Henry. McNichols has at least made a strong bid to keep the third-down role after averaging 5.4 yards per carry and 7.0 yards per target through the first five weeks of the season.

Limited to three touches McNichols recorded one rush for nine yards in Sunday's win over the Jaguars. He added two receptions for 26 yards.
Impact McNichols lost touches as compared to his workload in Week 4 due to the return of A.J. Brown (hamstring) and Marcus Johnson (undisclosed). Despite that outlier performance, McNichols has totaled five or fewer touches in four of five games this season. As a result, he's the clear backup to Derrick Henry and little more for fantasy purposes. However, that could also change in short order, as Darrynton Evans (knee) has been designated to return from injured reserve and may work behind Henry upon his return.
OCTOBER 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Churns out full practice McNichols (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Impact McNichols' reps were capped Wednesday in the Titans' first Week 5 practice, but his return to full activity a day later puts him on track to play Sunday in Jacksonville. Assuming Tennessee waits at least one more week to activate Darrynton Evans (knee) from injured reserve, McNichols should be on track to fill his usual change-of-pace role behind Derrick Henry on Sunday.

Dealing with hamstring injury McNichols (hamstring) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Impact He apparently hurt his hamstring in the process of setting career highs for snaps (40), targets (12), catches (eight) and receiving yards (74) during Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Jets. It was a solid effort from a back who has really only played in clear passing situations this year, but his role still won't lead to more than three or four targets most weeks. There's also a chance McNichols loses some or all of his snaps to Darrynton Evans (IR - knee) in the not-so-distant future.

OCTOBER 4, 2021 • Associated Press
Steps up in passing game McNichols recorded eight receptions on 12 targets for 74 yards in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Jets. He added one rushing attempt for 11 yards.
Impact McNichols remainined limited in the rushing attack, as Derrick Henry racked up an impressive 33 attempts on the ground. However, McNichols did increase his involvement as a receiver in the absence of both Julio Jones (hamstring) and A.J. Brown (hamstring), and he ultimately led the team in all receiving categories. Heading into Week 5, it will be difficult to project McNichols to carry this type of volume forward, though he could maintain increased involvement in the offense if the Titans' remain short-handed among its wide receiver corps.

Finds end zone on limited touches McNichols recorded two rushes for six yards in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Colts. He added one reception on two targets for 10 yards and a touchdown.
Impact McNichols remained in his typical role as he was on the field for only 18 offensive snaps. However, he did find the end zone early in the fourth quarter to put the Titans' up by nine points. McNichols will continue to serve as the complementary back to Derrick Henry, though it is worth noting that Henry has seen at least three targets in each game so far this season, which will make it difficult for McNichols to earn consistent volume.

Remains involved as pass catcher McNichols recorded only rush for three yards in Sunday's Week 2 win over Seattle. He added three receptions for 26 yards.
Impact Derrick Henry took over the game in the second half, which left McNichols to occupy an ever smaller role than typical. After playing on 36 percent of offensive snaps in Week 1, he was on the field only 24 percent of the time in Week 2. However, McNichols did maintain a role in the passing game and appears to be the clear backup to Henry for the time being.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Serves as primary backup McNichols recorded two carries for nine yards in Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Cardinals. He added three receptions on four targets for 24 yards.
Impact McNichols served his anticipated role as both a change-of-pace back and primary receiver out of the backfield. His only two carries came with under two minutes remaining in the game and victory well out of reach. On the other hand, he may have had an inflated role as receiver based on the Titans' need to throw in an attempt to come back in the contest. Though McNichols isn't projected to carry any significant workload with Derrick Henry leading the backfield, he seems to be Henry's primary backup so long as Darrynton Evans (knee) is sidelined.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Off COVID list McNichols was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Impact McNichols and quarterback Ryan Tannehill were removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list after spending 10 days away from the team. Both should be expected to be ready for the Week 1 contest against the Cardinals.

Lands on COVID list The Titans placed McNichols (undisclosed) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact McNichols is competing for the No. 3 role behind Darrynton Evans (knee), making this a crucial period of the preseason to miss any time. He only has a handful of days before Saturday's exhibition finale against the Bears. Any time McNichols spends sidelined will afford Brian Hill and Mekhi Sargent increased chances to impress.

Titans' COVID outbreak up to 4; Vrabel got antibody therapy

Second back on field McNichols carried the ball four times for 17 yards in the Titans' opening game of the preseason against the Falcons.
Impact With Derrick Henry sidelined, McNichols was the second back on the field behind Darrynton Evans (knee). Most notable was that McNichols worked ahead of Brian Hill, who was listed with Evans as a co-second string back on the team's initial depth chart. That seemingly put McNichols in danger of losing his roster spot, though his usage in the game indicates he may not be entirely buried among the team's rushers.
