Draws questionable tag Johnson (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's wild-card matchup against the Saints.

Impact Johnson ended the regular season with a trio of missed games, but he managed to practice on a limited basis in each of Chicago's practice sessions this week. With Buster Skrine (concussion) already ruled out to play in New Orleans, it would provide a notable boost for Chicago's secondary if Johnson can suit up and reprise his usual starting role.

Limited in Wednesday's session Johnson (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice estimate, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.

Impact Johnson missed the last three games of the regular season but was labeled as day-to-day by coach Matt Nagy on Monday. If the starting cornerback doesn't suffer a setback in practice this week, he should be able to suit up in the wild-card round against the Saints on Sunday.

Not dealing with serious injury Coach Matt Nagy said Monday that Johnson (shoulder) is day-to-day, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Johnson missed the final three games of the season with this injury, but he may return for Sunday's playoff game against the Saints. A better idea of Johnson's progress will be available when the Bears reveal their first practice report of the week Wednesday.

Strong rookie season Johnson missed the last three games of the regular season with a shoulder injury, and the rookie ended the season with 44 tackles.

Impact Johnson was everything the Bears were hoping he'd be when selecting him in the 2020 draft, and as he goes into the second year of a four-year deal, it's very likely that he could be an emerging star who'll be a coveted IDP option.

Remains out Week 16 Johnson (shoulder) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports.

Impact Johnson did not practice in any capacity this week, and he will consequently miss a second consecutive game. With Buster Skrine (concussion) also out of commission, the Bears will again be short-handed at cornerback.

Ruled out Week 15 Johnson (shoulder) won't play in Sunday's divisional matchup against the Vikings, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact Johnson suffered the injury in last week's win over Houston, and this news isn't surprising, considering he failed to practice at all this week. The absence of the rookie out of Utah will hurt the Bears' secondary, as he's racked up 44 tackles (34 solo) and 15 pass breakups across 13 games this season in a starting role. Kindle Vildor, Xavier Crawford and Duke Shelley are the candidates to start and see increased roles now that Johnson has been ruled out.

Status in question Johnson (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Vikings.

Impact Johnson exited last week's blowout win over the Texans and didn't return due to a shoulder injury. He didn't practice all week, but the Bears are leaving open the possibility that he could tough it out for a critical divisional outing. Buster Skrine (concussion) has already been ruled out. Kindle Vildor or Duke Shelley are the candidates to start if Johnson -- who has started every game this year -- sits out.

Injury leaves return in question Johnson (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's matchup against the Texans, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Impact Chicago finds itself down a starting cornerback for the time being, however, there's no pressing urgency to get the second-round rookie back into the contest with the Bears carrying a lopsided fourth-quarter lead. Johnson has surrendered five touchdowns in coverage this season, though his 15 pass deflections are an impressive total. He's demonstrated durability in fielding 95-plus percent of Chicago's defensive snaps over 11 of his 12 appearances.

Productive pro debut Johnson recorded six tackles in Chicago's 27-23 victory over the Lions on Sunday.

Impact With Kyle Fuller being a strong cornerback on the other side of the field, Johnson could see opposing quarterbacks pick on him quite a bit, which may lead to plenty of performances like the one he had in Week 1. It's quite possible that the rookie quickly emerges as a strong weekly IDP option.

Earns starting role Johnson was named the starting cornerback across from teammate Kyle Fuller, according to the team's official website.

Impact Once Artie Burns was lost for the season early in camp, the writing was on the wall that Johnson would emerge as the starter, especially after being selected in the second round of this year's draft. With the possibility that opposing offenses could pick on the rookie, there's a chance he could post a high tackle total, which would elevate his IDP stock.

Impact Although Johnson was selected in the second round of this year's draft, Burns' greater NFL experience at least made him a real threat to beat the rookie out for a starting role at cornerback. However, with Buster Skrine likely ticketed for the slot and a trio of reserves unlikely to pose much of a challenge on the outside, there's now a good chance Johnson starts at the spot opposite Kyle Fuller early in the season, if not in Week 1.

AUGUST 19, 2020 • ROTOWIRE

Fighting for starting gig Johnson (shoulder) is competing for a starting outside cornerback spot across from Kyle Fuller, Charley Casserly of NFL.com reports.

Impact Johnson has the opportunity to be an immediate contributor in Chicago's secondary if he can overcome the difficulties of a shortened in-person offseason. His primary competition for a starting gig will likely come in the form of Buster Skrine, who is coming off the least productive season of his nine-year career. The rookie second-round pick is expected to be fully healthy for Week 1 after having played through a labrum tear during his entire junior year at Utah.
